17 times, and the word “teach” or “teaching” occurs 200 times, almost all of them referring to instruction in the ways of the Lord. Obviously, God wants His children to know Him. Obviously, He wants to teach us, and so to share Himself with us.

mbedded in the middle of the very poignant Psalm 86, a prayer of LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.
4 In the world of education, the phrase “lifelong learning” is a popular one.
We are encouraged by physicians to stimulate our minds by learning new things throughout our lives to keep our minds healthy. A number of years ago,
- ing and healthcare. I remember a workshop on Alzheimer’s Disease in which the teacher made a profound- ly sad statement in describing what that disease does to one’s mind. Speaking of a lady with Alzheimer’s, the instructor said the problem was not simply that the lady had forgot- ten much of what she once knew but that “she can’t learn new informa- tion.” In essence, her mind had be- come unteachable. It is clear in Scripture that we are to learn as much of our God as pos- sible while we are able to do so. We will never exhaust all there is to know about Him, nor will we ever run out of content. A child might gaze in awe at a clear blue sky on an autumn day as his parents point out that God made the color blue and gave him eyes to see it. That same child, a few years later, now with the capacity for deeper understanding, might marvel as he listens to a professor give de- God-created process of light refrac- tion, the function of the various parts of our eyes, and the amazingly com- plex operations of the nervous sys- tem that allow us to distinguish col- God our Father loves to teach His
children! And He has done so in vari- ous ways, which include, of course, our private times of Bible study and prayer; the fellowship and instruc- tion in our church families; interac- tions with individuals; and Christian institutions of higher education. Our denomination has only one such in- stitution—Erskine.
