President’s Message

Hello WSCAI Members! Did you enjoy the snow? What a fun surprise for the holidays! It made everything so pretty, only not as much while driving.

As we venture into the New Year, it is time to reflect on the past and consider ways we can improve our lives. My goals usually include getting in shape, eating healthier (losing some of those extra pounds I gained from the holidays), organizing my cluttered closets and drawers, and my fun goal—trying new things (new restaurants, new adventures, new hobbies, etc). I also try to make a conscious effort to find things to be grateful for every day (that’s actually pretty easy). We all have goals—individual to each of us. The New Year can be a fresh start, a re-boot!

Past Successes and New Opportunities

Have you thought about getting more involved with WSCAI? The New Year opened so many opportunities. Many of our committees are seeking new volunteers. We especially love homeowner volunteers, who make up the majority of our membership. We value your input!

We had our Strategic Planning Meeting in December where the Board and committee chairs came together to report on their progress and brainstorm new ideas for 2022. We also discussed the successes we had in 2021. I would like to share some of my favorites: The Chapter held ALL of our planned events, whether it was virtual or in-person, despite the pandemic thanks to our hard-working WSCAI Executive Team and many committee members. Many other CAI chapters cannot say the same. Our new ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) Program won an award from National CAI; and as you have probably noticed, our Journal has gone fully digital. Our Digital Media Designer, Tara Matthews has done a great job of that! And, thanks to Mira Fitzsimons, WSCAI’s Graphic & Web Designer, Business Partners can now sponsor events and register for trade shows online at https://wscai.org/sponsorship/sponsorship- opportunities. Thank you to all the Business Partners who have already signed up to sponsor events. You can find our 2022 Chapter Sponsors listed on page 7.

One of my personal goals for the Chapter is to increase our membership. Our focus is to educate board members and managers. We have educational classes every month for homeowner volunteers and managers, as well as three trade shows with education and networking, social events and

so much more. We need to get the word out to those who could benefit from all that we have to offer! Let us know if you have any ideas.

Did you know that if your association has a three-board- membership and would like to sign up for the Board Member Webinar Series, you can sign up three people for the price of one? An educated board is the best board!

Keep a lookout! We’ll be creating a survey to hear what you would like to see, learn or experience as members. Are there new topics you would like to learn about? Are there events that are your favorite? This is great information for planning our educational lineups and events this year, so please participate when you see it!

We have some great articles in this edition. With the theme of the New Year, the article “Seize the Opportunity for Inspiration and Growth in 2022” fosters ideas for personal goals and resolutions. The new year is also a time to get familiar with your insurance policy—Steve Weidenbach tells us how to avoid coverage gaps. Are you planning for projects in your community this year? Planning ahead is one of the key recommendations in Dave Wescott’s article on Asphalt Maintenance. Mike Schultis also weighs in on “Project Planning in 2022“ and Patrick Bach details “How the Pandemic Has Impacted Condominium & HOA Projects.“

On a last note, I had to slip in some photos of my animals. Since my husband, Danny and I became “empty nesters” and our kids aren’t around as much, this holiday we posed with our 2 dogs, Sandy (7-year-old Lab mix) and Riley (6-year-old Lab/Boxer mix), as well as our 15-year-old queen of the house, Hannah (Montana) the cat. I also had to share a shot of my beautiful backyard in the snow. Riley couldn’t get enough of it! I hope you all enjoy the winter months.

All my best, Jackie Davis, Chapter President (206) 507-4191 | Jackie.Davis@goblusky.com
