NOVEMBER 2022

Selections from We Should Glory, Volume 2

Octavo packet OCP 30147222, $15.00.

“I Give You a New Commandment” Bob Hurd, arranged by Rick Modlin. SATB choir, piano, guitar, cello, oboe, assembly. OCP 30145609, $2.65.

Here is an easily singable piece for the Washing of the Feet on Holy Tursday. Te refrain is in a SATB setting, while the verses alternate between two parts and SATB. Verse texts echo the Gospel of John texts that are proclaimed in the Easter Season, making this piece appropriate throughout Eastertime. Comfortable and beautiful in its simplicity.

“We Adore Your Cross”

Bob Hurd and Ken Canedo, arranged by Rick Modlin. SATB choir, keyboard, guitar, assembly. OCP 30145611, $2.65.

Te refrain is an arrangement of the tune PICARDY, appropriate for the Adoration of the Cross on Good Friday. Verses are newly composed, with the text coming from Paul’s letters to the Corinthians and Philippians. A strong and very singable piece for a parish choir and assembly.

“Psalm 118: Alleluia”

Bob Hurd and Ken Canedo. SATB choir, piano, guitar, assembly. OCP 30148949, $2.65.

Tis lively, syncopated setting of Psalm 118 is intended for the Easter Vigil, between the Epistle and the Gospel readings. With a slow rock rhythm, and an

easily learned melody, this will be easy to put together and enable all to proclaim the joy of the risen Christ. A related setting of Psalm 118 for Easter Sunday (“Tis Is the Day”) is also available.

Augsburg Organ Library, Series II

Lent 9781506448107, $45.00. Easter 9781506448114, $45.00.

Augsburg’s compendia of 20th- and 21st-century organ literature continues with Series II. Tese volumes for Lent and Easter present a wide variety of two- to six- minute pieces, appropriate for preludes and postludes. All are playable on two-manual organs with pedal and are of medium and higher difficulty. Te vast majority of pieces are based on familiar hymn tunes, and many could be used throughout the year. Tunes in the Lent volume include ERHALT UNS, HERR, LOVE UNKNOWN, WONDROUS LOVE, and Marty Haugen’s THOMAS (“Tree of Life”). Te Easter volume includes works based on DUKE STREET, EASTER HYMN, LASST UNS ERFREUEN, and THAXTED, among others. Works based on tunes from diverse cultures are represented, including NJOO KWETU, ROHO MWEMA and SANTO DOMINGO. Many female composers are represented, including Brenda Portman, Marilyn Biery, and Emma Lou Diemer. Te Augsburg Organ Library can be valuable to pastoral musicians, and the new additions should be explored in depth.
