THE ART OF THE SWEET POTATO CASSEROLE

Over the years since that first Tanksgiv- ing my mom and I have tried dozens of different sweet potato casserole recipes. - ferent versions and had a taste-off, true - sions that have been absolutely delicious so we star them for repeat in future years, but we have not found Aunt Pat’s recipe. As it turns out, that’s okay. We are no longer trying to replicate her recipe.

In-

stead we have created a new tradition for our family – trying to find our own “Per-    - fully one day our children will remember so fondly and want to make sure it graces their holiday feast as well.

It is now on

my and my husband’s “must have” list, every year, no questions asked. I am sure that Aunt Pat would be pleased with my efforts creating our family’s new sweet potato casserole!

Te “art” of a good casserole is more than just the ingredients that we use. It is the combination of how they go together, the ability to improvise when you don’t have an exact recipe to follow, and how much heart goes into the dish. If you think about it, sweet potato casseroles are similar to the HOA industry. Te “ingre- dients” are all the same – homeowners, properties, managers – but none are ever actually the same. Board members are different, each home is unique, and every manager brings a one-of-a-kind view- point. When you have a great HOA, you cannot replicate it at another location no matter how hard you try. When you have a more challenging one, you give it your all, try to tweak the recipe a little bit, and hope that it gets better with time. With effort and heart though, they can all turn out to be pretty good ones (sweet potato casseroles and HOAs).
