‘SWEET MONDIAL’ ROSE Rio Roses – Equiflor “There’s obviously a lot of pink roses, but this is the best one,” Dobbe said. It earned high marks from him because of its soft pink petals that darken toward the middle. Wheat reaches for ‘Sweet Mondial’ for wedding work because of its coloring — and value. Kennicott sees the variety becoming florists’ go-to. “We’ve seen it before, but these are very special and it’s a good variety,” he said. “I think it’s going to become a staple.”
‘COUNTRY CANDY’ ROSE Bellarosa ‘Country Candy’ features ruffled petals of light pink edged in dark pink, lending itself to retail specials and Valentine’s Day work. “This is a good retail rose,” Wheat said. “I would say on Valentine’s Day, you could run with this.” In addition to its unique coloring, Kennicott commented that the bud shape and even how it blooms is different, making it unique.
‘FUNKY COLD MEDINA’ ROSE Jet Fresh Flower Growers “Pizzaz,” “magnificent,” and “beautiful” were words judges used to sum up this peachy coral rose. “The color is magnificent,” Dobbe said. “It’s like a light orange on the outside and a pinky orange on the inside. I think it’s a beautiful color.” He also noted that the flower was on a thick stem and looked hardy. Wheat was astonished by the array of colors she could detect — pink, coral, orange and yellow. “Look at how many tones of color there are in there,” she said. “That is a beautiful rose.”
