> OUTSTANDING VARIETIES 2023

‘PHILADELPHIA’ CHRYSANTHEMUM Icon Selections SAS A “picture-perfect mum” is how Moore described this large cremon chrysanthemum. “The first thing that ran through my mind was how versatile these could be,” she said. “They would look stunning in a wedding, funeral work, even everyday work.” Plus, it adds a lot of value because it takes up so much space. “In my shop, a disbud mum would be maybe $3 per stem. This I could easily justify $6 to $7,” Moore said. Alders noted that ‘Philadelphia’ wasn’t a true white, more of a bright cream, “offering a unique color tone in the disbud mum family.”

‘BELLAVISTA’ CHRYSANTHEMUM Royal Van Zanten ‘Bellavista’ could be a great substitute for dahlias in weddings demanding a pop of bronze, Moore said. “I kind of like that you could just pair it with so many things,” she said, praising it for its layers upon layers of petals. Hagstrom also noted a high count of petals, which are lighter on the underside, giving it a two-toned appearance.

CHRYSANTHEMUM Danzinger “Dan” Flower Farm Moore noted the color, which is so saturated that it gives off a touch of rust at the center where the petals are clustered. “These would do really well in my shop,” she said. “Yellow makes people happy, and I was really happy when I judged this one.” The color fills a void in the pompom market, Alders said.

‘BABETTE’ CHRYSANTHEMUM Deliflor Americas ‘Babette’ is a salmon, daisy santini chrysanthemum packed with up to 15 blooms per stem that open at the same time, making it an ideal filler. “Cost is a factor for every arrangement, and this gives you a lot of bang for the buck,” Hagstrom said. Moore would use ‘Babette’ as an accent or in corsage work. “It’s just adorable,” she said.
