ART AND ENTERTAINMENT TheArtandEntertainmentCommieeregularly displaysworksofartbyresidentsinthelobby,asdo manyotherresidenalgroups.However,theyalso sponsoramajorexhibitandlecture 


whichisunique.Itencompassesawiderangeofart, includingphotographs,painngs,printsandsculpture fromadiversegroupofresidentarstsbothamateur andprofessional. 


Thesuccessfulrstexhibit,heldintheearly1990's, encouragedsubsequentexhibitsthatincludedmore entrieswithincreasedcontentandmorearacve placement.TheeleventhPhiladelphianResidents’Art ExhibitwasheldinJune,2013with143piecescreated by45residents.Ittookplaceoveraweekend,with muchsupportfromthePOAmanagement.TheFriday eveningopeningwasaneleganteventandthe Saturdaymorninglectureandslideshowwasgivenby Dr.BurtonWasserman,awellknownarst,cricand writer. 


Theexhibitinvolvedvemonthsofpreparaonand assistancefrommanyresidents.Animportantfactorin creangasuccessfulshowistheplacingoftheart workonwallsandpedestals.Forthe2013show, residentLibbyNewman,arecognizedarstand curator,oeredhertalentforplacingtheentriesso thatdisparatepieceswereputtogetherfora connuousuniedimpressionwhenvisitorsentered theexhibitroom.ThetwelhResidents’ArtExhibitis plannedforJune2015. 


GREEN TASK FORCE ThePhiladelphianGreenTaskForceandsuccessive POAboardshavemadeconcertedeortstomakethe buildingmoresustainableduringthepastdecade. From20062008,theyinstalled8000energyecient windows,2000individualheangandcoolingunitsin apartments,andnewenergyecientheangand coolingequipmentandCFLbulbsinmostcommon areas. 


In2013,replacementofthebuilding'stotalheang andcoolingsystemwascompleted.Morethan $1,500,000inenergycostshasbeensavedsincethe compleonoftheseprojects.Inaddion,thesesavings representsignicantreduconsingreenhousegasses. "Green"cleaningmaterialsformaintenanceand interiorrenovaonincommonareasareused rounely.Theimpactofallfacilityandhousekeeping decisionsisalwaysconsideredtoprotectthehealthof staandresidents. 

Thecommieesimpliedtherecyclingsystemandgreatlyincreasedthe numberofitemsthatcanberecycled,toachieveanaverageof30% reduconintrash.Theyhavealsodistributed1200CFLbulbstoresidents, heldadaylongGreenHomeShow,launchedanongoingpubliceducaon programwithpublicaonofa28pageGreenBook,providedannualpaper shreddingdaysandspecialcolleconsforunwantedmedicineand eyeglasses. 


TheyconsultregularlywiththePOAboardandmanagementandareproud oftheirstridesthatcanmakeThePhiladelphianthegreenestmulfamily buildingintheregionastheyconnueworkingtoimproveanalready outstandingrecord.
