ART AND ENTERTAINMENT TheArtandEntertainmentCommieeregularly displaysworksofartbyresidentsinthelobby,asdo manyotherresidenalgroups.However,theyalso sponsoramajorexhibitandlecture
whichisunique.Itencompassesawiderangeofart, includingphotographs,painngs,printsandsculpture fromadiversegroupofresidentarstsbothamateur andprofessional.
Thesuccessfulrstexhibit,heldintheearly1990's, encouragedsubsequentexhibitsthatincludedmore entrieswithincreasedcontentandmorearacve placement.TheeleventhPhiladelphianResidents’Art ExhibitwasheldinJune,2013with143piecescreated by45residents.Ittookplaceoveraweekend,with muchsupportfromthePOAmanagement.TheFriday eveningopeningwasaneleganteventandthe Saturdaymorninglectureandslideshowwasgivenby Dr.BurtonWasserman,awellknownarst,cricand writer.
Theexhibitinvolvedvemonthsofpreparaonand assistancefrommanyresidents.Animportantfactorin creangasuccessfulshowistheplacingoftheart workonwallsandpedestals.Forthe2013show, residentLibbyNewman,arecognizedarstand curator,oeredhertalentforplacingtheentriesso thatdisparatepieceswereputtogetherfora connuousuniedimpressionwhenvisitorsentered theexhibitroom.ThetwelhResidents’ArtExhibitis plannedforJune2015.
GREEN TASK FORCE ThePhiladelphianGreenTaskForceandsuccessive POAboardshavemadeconcertedeortstomakethe buildingmoresustainableduringthepastdecade. From20062008,theyinstalled8000energyecient windows,2000individualheangandcoolingunitsin apartments,andnewenergyecientheangand coolingequipmentandCFLbulbsinmostcommon areas.
In2013,replacementofthebuilding'stotalheang andcoolingsystemwascompleted.Morethan $1,500,000inenergycostshasbeensavedsincethe compleonoftheseprojects.Inaddion,thesesavings representsignicantreduconsingreenhousegasses. "Green"cleaningmaterialsformaintenanceand interiorrenovaonincommonareasareused rounely.Theimpactofallfacilityandhousekeeping decisionsisalwaysconsideredtoprotectthehealthof staandresidents.

Thecommieesimpliedtherecyclingsystemandgreatlyincreasedthe numberofitemsthatcanberecycled,toachieveanaverageof30% reduconintrash.Theyhavealsodistributed1200CFLbulbstoresidents, heldadaylongGreenHomeShow,launchedanongoingpubliceducaon programwithpublicaonofa28pageGreenBook,providedannualpaper shreddingdaysandspecialcolleconsforunwantedmedicineand eyeglasses.
TheyconsultregularlywiththePOAboardandmanagementandareproud oftheirstridesthatcanmakeThePhiladelphianthegreenestmulfamily buildingintheregionastheyconnueworkingtoimproveanalready outstandingrecord.
