AGC Bestows Achievement, Construction Friend Awards


AGC of California awarded four


coveted Achievement Awards for 2018 and its annual Construction Education Friend Award during its Awards evening at the Resort at Squaw Creek in Lake Tahoe on October 27, 2018. Each award honors the individual’s extensive career of service to the construction industry and within AGC over the years.


SIR Achievement Award Ivan Ramirez, P.E., construction


manager for the Contract Costa Trans- portation Authority (CCTA), recieved AGC’s S.I.R. Award. He has worked in the construction industry for over 27 years, spending approximately 20 years with the California Department of Transportation and the last seven for CCTA. He is responsible for overseeing the Authority’s $1.5 billion construction program, which includes the State Highway System, Bay Area Rapid Transit System, and local government agencies. In recent years, he imple- mented innovation initiatives at CCTA including e-Construction, e-Bidding, e-Inspection, and others.


Contractor Achievement Award Jim Blois, owner and CEO of Blois


Construction, Inc., is recipient of the 2018 Contractor Achievement Award. He grew up in the construction industry and in 2003 became the CEO and owner of the Oxnard-headquartered heavy construction firm. He is a strong advocate for training and developing the next generation of construction leaders, supporting AGC scholarship and training programs for many years, and has supported numerous other worthy nonprofit organizations.

the 2018 Specialty Contractor Achievement Award. Polich grew up in a family with a long history in the Southern California construction market. He estimated and managed projects for Western Pacific Contracting, Te Polich Woodruff Company, and Colich & Sons before purchasing a partnership in Bali Construction, Inc. in 2003, where he currently serves as President and Chief Operating Officer. Polich has served on Boards of both the ECA & AGC, is currently serving as the Chair of the Joint Engineering Division, AGC of California, and trustee of the Industry Advancement Fund.


Associate Achievement Award Sam Hassoun, founder and


president of Global Leadership Alliance, Inc. (GLA), Sacramento, received AGC’s Associate Achievement Award. He is a registered civil engineer in the state of California with over 35 years of professional engineering experience. Hassoun started his engineering career with the Bechtel Corporation and work for Caltrans


for several years including as Quality Program Manager and Office Chief of Partnering before founding GLA. An international trainer, speaker, and presenter on Partnering and leadership, he consults with numerous organiza- tions and companies on collaborative dispute prevention systems.


Construction Education Friend Award Gary Rafferty is recipient of the


Construction Education Friend award. He retired as President and Chief Operations Officer of Swinerton Builders, San Francisco, in 2017 but remains a member of its Board of Directors. With over 44 years of industry experience, Rafferty managed $4.0 billion annual construction volume at Swinerton. He has long been active mentoring and devel- oping engineering and construction management students and graduates and serves on the advisory boards for several universities including as a lecturer at Cal State University Long Beach for 12 years. 
