California construction companies and individuals for their commitment to safety, handing out a variety of awards during the 31st Annual Construction Safety Excellence Awards (CSEA) luncheon on October 26, 2018. Approximately 140 company execu- tives, safety professionals and AGC members gathered for the presti- gious awards presentations held in conjunction with AGC’s 2018 Annual

and associated companies for their commitment to safe work practices through management commitment and employee involvement. Joe Tantarelli, senior safety


consultant at SafeStart with a nearly 40-year background in heavy construction work, was the keynote speaker at the AGC CSEA luncheon. For the past five years he has assisted safety directors with management


and employee training and has been a popular speaker at various venues including the Army Corps of Engineers Construction Roundtable, the Ohio B.W.C. Safety Expo, and the Kentucky Governor’s Safety and Health Conference, among others. Tantarelli shared his own


compelling story of surviving a near fatal trench collapse accident 35 years ago as a young operating engineer. He highlighted the actions and most crtically, mental and physical states – rushing, frustration, fatigue and
