2018 Annual Conference Construction Industry Leaders Gather in Lake Tahoe for Variety of Education, Business and Networking Forums

Conference drew more than 400 to the Resort at Squaw Creek Lake Tahoe on October 24-27, 2018, where attendees took part in an array of business, educational and networking sessions with construction professionals from throughout the state. Nearly 70 AGC of California


student chapter members from nine student chapters were in attendance. In addition to the educational and business sessions, conference attendees heard motivational keynote speakers at opening and closing sessions and spent time with exhibitors during the three-day Construction Expo that spotlighted over two dozen leading industry suppliers and solution providers. AGC held its prestigious 2018


Awards Banquet as well as its 2018 Construction Safety Excellence Awards luncheon in conjunction with the Annual Conference. Te association elected its


leadership for 2019 at the State and Division Board meetings, while also tackling a range of industry issues and AGC business.


Speakers and Educational Offerings


AGC kicked off its opening general


session with an address by keynote speaker Kris Lengieza of Procore, entitled “2020 A Construction Tech Odyssey.” Katie McConnell of Hire Education Consulting Group delivered the closing session address entitled “Build a Better Hiring Blueprint, Gain

a Competitive Edge.” Troughout the conference AGC


held nearly a dozen professional educational sessions led by industry experts as well as half a dozen Student Chapter/CLC Training seminars. Te sessions followed four tracks: leadership development, technology and innovation, project management and regulatory and safety. Te conference’s general session,


“Building a Healthy and Respectful Workplace,” featured a four-person panel discussion of the Green Dot prevention strategy, an innovative approach to violence and harassment prevention that is successfully being implemented on a high-profile court- house project in Portland, OR.


AGC Divisions Elect Leadership, Discuss Key Issues

Directors held business meetings during the conference in which they elected leaders for the coming year. Te 2019 AGC Building Division will be led by Jim McLamb, Te Clark Construction Group - California, LP, as Chair and Brad Jeanneret, Hensel

Phelps, as Vice Chair. Te Joint Engineering Division elected Clinton Myers, Myers & Sons Construction, LP, as Chair and Pat Kelly, Granite Construction, as Vice Chair. Members of the Jt. Engineering


Division heard a presentation on the multi-billion-dollar California WaterFix project from the Metro- politan Water District. In the Building Division meeting, AGC-member project representatives highlighted two current high-profile stadium projects, the Chase Center Arena in San Francisco and the Los Angeles Stadium project. AGC legislative advocates spotlighted recent legislative activities and priorities, including the extensive work to defeat Proposition 6, a key accomplishment for AGC when it was defeated in the November 6 election.
