starting with our newly combined Instal- lation and Awards Gala on January 31. Welcome to AGC’s Centennial Year! T
his year marks AGC’s 100th year in
California! We have some special activities planned to celebrate,
for our company, my dad, and me, to help us get through many of the toughest parts of being a contractor. Today, our
for 2020. Here’s some brief thoughts. For the past two years, under our CEO Peter Tateishi and Past Presidents Walt Johnson and Jerome DiPadova, AGC of California has undergone a seismic change. Tese AGC leaders, with the support of the whole board, have completely reimagined what AGC can and should be. It’s required a total reorganization, the addition of new and incredibly talented staff executives, and a new vision, mission and strategic plan. My thanks go to Walt and Jerome for
leading us through this transformation so tactfully and successfully, and to our 2017 President Mike Mencarini for setting the stage so well. Now that the “pieces are in place,” it’s an exciting time for the association to turn its attention toward its members and to provide places and services to help us grow and prosper. When AGC adds this much value to its members, the association naturally grows and thrives too. What makes AGC a valuable partner
in our business may vary for each of us. When my father joined AGC some 41 years ago, it was because our small contracting business needed assistance in establishing a dual-gate jobsite. We also needed safety training for our foremen and superintendents. Later, we wanted to use industry-standard subcontracts. At a very pivotal time in our company’s history, we also needed help with the California Contractor’s State License Board to transition our license after my father’s passing. At every stage, AGC was there

business needs have evolved, and so has AGC. One of the greatest benefits I gain from our membership is the ability to meet so many other outstanding contractors and business leaders, and to not only develop professional relationships, but personal friendships. Tese collegial friendships, some of which have grown into informal mentoring relationships, have made a tremendous difference in the growth and success of our business. Speaking of friendships, I wish to
recognize and thank our 2020 officer corps for donating so much of their time and talent to advance our industry. Tey are tremendous business and community leaders, and we are fortunate that they are volunteering so much of their time to make our industry a better place to work. Tey include: Dina Kimble of Royal Electric – President-Elect; Jim Blois of Blois Construction, Inc. – VP, Utility & Infrastructures; Clinton Myers of Myers & Sons – VP, Highway & Transportation; Brad Jeanneret of Hensel Phelps – VP, Building; Greg Timmerman of ISEC Inc. – VP, Specialty Contractor; Steve Rule of Turner Construction – Treasurer; Jerome DiPadova of Skanska USA Civil West – Immediate Past President; Peter Tateishi of AGC of California – CEO. So in short, my goal this year is to
empower AGC to become as valuable to you as it’s been to our company and me personally. AGC membership opens up doors to new possibilities and friendships, and I’m excited and honored to serve as your president this year. Tank you!
