WORKERS' COMPENSATION TRENDS

company’s Return to Work program before an incident, it can speed up their evaluation and potentially reduce temporary disability claims. If your MPN doesn’t know about your program yet, proactively share infor- mation now.

5. Partner on claims When there is a workers’ compen-

sation claim, you want to have a seat at the table and an advocate by your side. A skilled adjuster who is invested

in the results can make a significant difference in the experience – both for the injured employee and the employer. Your insurance broker is your advocate in this process. If it seems that your concerns are not being heard, or if the claim is not progressing as it should, speak up so that together, you can keep the claim process moving forward.

In Summary Regardless of insurance market

Reduce workers’ comp system abuse.

Lower temporary disability. When an employee is injured, what

can you do to accommodate them and help them return to work? If there are no positions within your company that would be suitable, are you open to exploring other options? Key to a strong Return to Work

program are accurate job descriptions. Tey should be sufficiently detailed so that a doctor can evaluate the injured employee’s capabilities against the position’s functional requirements.

4. Build a robust process for the first 48 hours

Did you know that the average indemnity claim in California results in a loss over $68,000? If you can condense the indemnity period, you can create savings for your bottom line.

Collect the relevant facts and

interview for information while it’s fresh. If your doctor or Medical Provider Network (MPN) is familiar with your

conditions, a deliberate risk management program should support your current objectives and prepare you for the future when workers’ compen- sation terms may not be as favorable. Building an effective risk

management program, just like your work on a project, requires a strong team. Engage with the right broker to help your employees return home safely, save your company money, and keep your focus on successfully completing profitable projects.
