Construction Industry Leaders Gather in Huntington Beach for Variety of Education, Business and Networking Forums

industry professionals gathered in Huntington Beach October 9-11, 2019 for AGC of California’s revamped Annual Conference, Construct 2019. Many of the state’s top
construction industry leaders along with nearly 70 students from 10 AGC of California student chapters took part in a variety of business, educational and networking sessions and meetings. Tey heard from engaging speakers such as genera- tional research expert and author Sarah Sladek, discussed AGC's recent launch of Build California, and spent time with industry suppliers and solution providers during a daylong Construction Expo event. Construct offered an array of
events geared towards the many student chapter members in atten- dance. Tat included a student chapter job fair, student competition
and several seminars specifically tailored to the incoming young professional workforce. AGC
held its 2019 Construction Safety Excellence Awards luncheon in conjunction with the conference, elected its 2020 leadership, and tackled a host of industry issues and AGC business.
Opening Session Keynote: The Talent Generation

University, kicked off the opening general session with a dynamic, interactive discussion on how various social, economic and political influ- ences have shaped generations from Baby Boomers to Gens X, Y and Z and have impacted the workforce and talent shortage. CEO Peter Tateishi in a Q&A that highlighted the new AGC Build California initiative. “Build California allows us to take back our narrative and communicate what construction careers actually offer through videos and curriculum that reach the next generation where they are,” Tateishi told the packed opening session audience. Sladek said Build California fills
