Honoring Our Industry’s Best S
hining a spotlight on some of the
best construction projects, individuals, and companies in our state, AGC of California announced the results of our 2017 Awards compe- tition at our Awards
Banquet on October 14, 2017. In addition, we honored the winners of our 30th
Annual
Construction Safety Excellence Awards competition with a luncheon on October 12. I’d like to offer a huge “Congratulations” not only to the award recipients but to all of the nominees. It is an honor to witness the innovative, safe and ingenious work contin- ually submitted by the AGC membership, year after year. Te AGC Awards Banquet annually
celebrates the best construction projects substantially completed the year prior, and this year proved to be one of the most competitive yet. All of the Constructor winners and finalists, Achievement Award winners and the Construction Education Friend Award winner are highlighted in this issue of the Constructor, as are the Construction Safety Excellence Award winners. In addition to AGC’s awards programs,
October 11-14 was also AGC of Califor- nia’s Annual Conference week, held in conjunction with the Awards programs in Indian Wells. Te conference was a huge success, with nearly 500 individuals in attendance to participate in educational seminars and an array of business meetings, hear opening and closing keynote speakers, network at various events and of course visit our Construction Expo. A key focus this year was ensuring that all aspects of the conference provided membership advantages through superior customer service from our staff. AGC demonstrated its commitment to increasing staff visibility, providing ample opportunities for members to build personal rapport with the many dedicated staff who work behind the scenes at AGC. Tis year we had over 20 staff members in attendance. Our devoted staff was readily available to
answer questions and assist members in making connections and introductions. During our conference and meetings,
we covered plenty of topics and future goals, including the 2018 Scorecard and Dashboard, 2017 legislative progress and efforts for 2018, the CLC agenda and Go Build, among other things. With membership in mind and an idea of what customer service means to AGC, our 2018 strategic scorecard continues to place a primary emphasis on service. Te AGC staff has pledged to not only make service a cornerstone of the everyday workflow, but to make it a mindset. Some big wins on the legislative front
over the past year were also highlighted during our recent business meetings, and a plan was set in motion to combat the threat to SB 1 revenue. Another key highlight was our chapter’s selection to host the 2017 CLC Leadership Conference this November in Los Angeles. We look forward to an amazing and successful event for all who attend. I am also happy to announce the
enormous strides to complete the full website and campaign launch for the Go Build California campaign by January 2018. Te Construction Education Foundation’s staff put forth the dedication and hard work to make this launch happen. Lastly, I’d like to highlight the efforts of the nominating committee and the announcement of our leadership nominations for 2018. Congratu- lations to Dina Kimble of Royal Electric Company, nominated as the 2018 Treasurer. As the first Specialty Contractor repre- sentative to be elected, Dina will bring her fresh perspective to the 2018 officer corps, which also includes Walt Johnson, K.G. Walters, as President; Jerome Di Padova, Skanska Civil West, Sr. Vice President; and Michael Blach, Blach Construction, as Vice President. It has never been a more exciting time
for the Association. Te changes being made and the devoted staff are making all the difference in the member experience. We hope that our bold new strategy and refocused services project a relevant message that speaks to you, our members.
