NOW, MORE THAN EVER By Alex Pettett, World Witness Executive Director

Difficult days like these cause us to pause and reflect on how we can participate, more than ever before, in what God is doing around the world. Like me, you may find yourself longing to step ever deeper into His Kingdom work. Perhaps you feel an unusual urgency to make the most of your time and resources in helping fulfill the Great Commission. I’m reminded of the urgent instruction in 2 Corinthians 6:2b: “Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” May this cause us to ask, “What can I do NOW, Lord?”

I pray, as you read the following two articles (about God’s work at Christian Hospital Sahiwal (CHS) in Pakistan and about ministry-support ideas from the ARP Foundation) you will be challenged and enjoy fresh vision and passion for bringing the Gospel to those who have never heard.

SUSTAINED AND KEPT By Dr. Keith Ackerman, Director CHS

 PAKISTAN — God has been our sustainer and keeper, through these months of pandemic upheaval and confusion. In the words of Dr. Michael, Medical Superintendent of CHS, “So far, so good.” To date, we have no Covid symptoms nor illness among CHS staff. We continue teaching and encouraging them to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE). Praise God for His protection, as staff manages today’s ever-changing healthcare realm.

The School of Nursing received notice to call students back to school. All returning students will enter the hospital as patients for the purpose of experiencing what PPE is and learn to follow new patient-care protocols. Please pray God will overshadow all of this, according to His purposes.

HONORING THE LORD By Alex Pettett

I believe many of us share a deep concern for honoring the Lord with our time and resources during these difficult days. That’s why I want you to hear about the valuable tools and services available, at no cost or obligation, through the ARP Foundation. Asset gifts to ARP missions are tax advantaged and ensure impact in fulfilling the Great Commission, beyond your lifetime.

Estate Planning/Updating Your Will – As a ministry to ARP members, the Foundation offers free professional counsel designed around your priorities that includes a tax‑efficient implementation plan for family needs and planned giving to ministries of your choice.

For example, World Witness received a $19,000 gift as a beneficiary of life insurance to help endow a $3MM goal for ARP Christian Schools in Pakistan, supporting an evangelistic education for over 700 students.

Appreciated Assets Gifts – The Foundation will help you make gifts to ministries of your choice from appreciated land, stocks, and real estate, as tax-advantaged alternatives to giving from income.

A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) or “personal giving account” can be funded by cash, appreciated securities, or gifts of real estate for a current tax deduction that may be distributed, at any time, to ministries of your choice.

A donor has provided funds to CHS to purchase another solar system phase, which means 75% of the hospital’s daily electrical needs will now be solar powered. Continuing development of solar capacity means future sustainability and is a gift that will keep on giving for years.

Dr. Michael has been appointed to serve on a District Health Advisory Committee. It’s truly a blessing for a minority healthcare provider to be named to such a high‑level office. As MS of CHS, Dr. Michael is recognized as a man of character and integrity. His new appointment clearly testifies to how CHS is salt and light in the community. God’s blessings on the small efforts of CHS are bringing societal awareness of Christ. To God be the glory!

For example, a couple donated their former home, generating $30,000 which they shared with their church and World Witness, thus seeing their asset at work in ministry, during their lifetime!

CARES Act 2020 – Recent tax changes allow $300 deductions, even without itemizing. The AGI limit is raised from 60 to 90% on cash donations, potentially benefiting large‑gift donors this year.

Direct Gifts of IRA’s to ministry may still be excluded from gross income, if you are 70 ½ years old, even though most retirement plans will waive the required minimum distribution (RMD) in 2020.

A Charitable Gift Annuity may be purchased with low-yielding cash investments (like CD’s) to provide predictable income for life, with remainder going to ministry.
