Sherwood’s Story BY RON BEARD

Sherwood and his friends could not get together because of the virus. They texted each other on the telephone. One of them sent a message saying, “ You can’t believe anything anybody says now. Everybody disagrees about everything. And there is no way for you to know who is right.” Another said, “My family worries about everything now.”

That evening he told his Dad that he was almost afraid to get up the next day for fear of what may go wrong. Sherwood said, “Everything seems to be in a real mess now and tomorrow is not looking too good either.”

His Dad told him that he didn’t need to worry about what some people say. Nobody really knows what is going to happen tomorrow.

He told Sherwood that Jesus warned us about this. “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

In this verse Jesus is telling us not to worry about tomorrow, because worrying about something doesn’t fix it. When we are afraid of things that aren’t happening or that may never happen we need to remember we have God to help us.

With God’s help we can deal with today’s problems. We have people who have told us and continue to tell us what we need to do to protect ourselves and others. We need to follow their wisdom and rely on God’s help.

One thing we don’t need to do is worry about what may happen tomorrow. When you worry about what isn’t happening now and may never happen you make things worse. Then you add to today’s worries those things that may or may not happen tomorrow.

God will provide whatever we need every day, today and tomorrow. We don’t have to waste time worrying about tomorrow because our God who helps us today will be there to help us tomorrow also.
