59th Bonclarken Music Conference By Trip McGill

2022, but also graciously agreed to be featured workshop leaders for our conference online at NO COST to us! Our clinicians have become family, not only through our association with them but with the love of our ARP church families and individuals whom over the years, have invited our clinicians into their homes at Bonclarken for Turkey and Dressing (Crowders Creek ARP), Low-Country Boil (First ARP Gastonia), Steak Night (Peachtree Corners), Cobbler night at the Scott’s and so many others. The fellowship and discussions in the rocking chairs outside of The Lodge, the times on the front porch of the hotel and the food and fellowship around the table in the Bonclarken Dining Hall have all been special times over the years with our clinicians. While we all wanted to be at Bonclarken, this virtual format gave us all a taste of what is to come in future

T

years and I hope gave us the inspiration to continue doing what God has called each of us to do in our churches. We are also incredibly happy to announce our faculty for next summer for the 60th Bonclarken Music Con-

ference. We look forward to messages from Rev. Matt Kuiken, pastor of First ARP Church in Gastonia, Chil- dren’s Church Devotions with Sarah Dagenhart from First ARP Rock Hill, Nibble Nook with David Hooks and Crafts with Heidi Shealy. Our musical faculty is a stellar one for sure. Anton Armstrong, conductor of the St. Olaf College Choir will

be our Adult Choir Clinician. Along with Anton, will be John Ferguson, retired organ professor at St. Olaf Col- lege, renowned composer and organist, as our Conference Organist. David Coleman will service as the Adult Choir Accompanist. Our other choirs will be conducted as follows: (Youth Choir) Mark Stover, University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club Conductor and St. Olaf graduate, (Middle School Choir) David Mandt, a Florida State University graduate, works with the Birmingham Boys Choir and is a High School Choral Teacher in Birmingham, Alabama, (Junior Choir), Amanda Pate Smith, a graduate of St. Olaf College and teacher of chil- dren in New York City and (Cherub/Primary Choirs) Elizabeth (Liz) Shepley, who is a graduate of St. Thomas University and Condordia College and is the former Artistic Director of the Northfield Youth Choirs. Our other accompanists will be: Ginger Statom, Richard Scott, Patsy Surratt and Carol Godfrey. We praise God for the opportunity to have brought you all an online virtual conference this summer, but we

sure do look forward to being together next summer at Bonclarken for our 60th anniversary! If you missed the online conference this summer, you may view the workshops at the links below. We look forward to next summer that we can all be together on the mountain for worship, fellowship, food and song!?

he summer of 2020 was nothing like any of us have seen before. It was an incredibly tough decision for us to move the 59th Bonclarken Music Conference to an online format! We were blessed to have clinicians for this summer who not only agreed to totally move to the year
