PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
It goes without saying that I applaud the 18 months of compromise, advocacy and teamwork that went into the latest Kentucky Legislative HB 167 successes that truly support veterinarians in the Commonwealth. Te time dedicated to the effort from all members and boards was truly impressive. Our group of advocates were applauded for their willingness to work together in our state capitol from many. Tank you to all who participated. Your efforts were worthy of praise and will continue to be so in years to come.
Protection of our state VCPR was one of the most significant elements of this bill in my mind as many challenges are being put forth going on around the nation regarding the VCPR (or lack thereof). I look forward to the next round(s) of modernization of the Practice Act to keep our licensed veterinarians, staff and practices a much-desired commodity. We know all too well of the veterinary industry shortages that we face. Just maybe, with our continued advocacy for our profession, we can continue to re- cruit the next generations of Kentucky veterinarians. With that in mind, as we move forward on the to-do list, the KVMA continues to advocate for the Kentucky seats at Auburn College of Veterinary Medicine and Tuskegee University. We continue to stay active with these great colleges with supporting the student chapter(s), actively partic- ipating at various meetings, staying involved with governmental agencies concerning these seats, and staying abreast of updates and changes at these institutions. Tese in- valuable seats are never far from our minds. Ideally, we’d like to create even more seats as we continue to advocate for the future veterinarians coming up behind us.
My heart goes out to our Louisville community and those who all were affected direct- ly and indirectly by the recent senseless and unfair gun violence that occurred. I hope and pray daily for peace in the Commonwealth and our great nation.
Sincerely, Dr. Brigette Dean-Hines, KVMA President Inside this Issue:
