KVMA EXECUTIVE BOARD REPORTS
KVMA Executive Board Meeting Minutes • Zoom Meeting February 23, 2023
1. Attendees of meeting: Drs. Redmon, Shoulders, Chick, Martinez, Crowe, Rodgers, Laster, Cundiff, Williams, Mirus, McGlasson, Tussey, Vice, King, Dean-Hines, Cassone, Weber, Giesbrecht and Flynn. Ms. Hamelback and Swim. Ms. Shelby Ackermann (AUCVM student) and Ms. Lauren Compton (LMU student).
2. Conflict of interest: none acknowledged 3. Minutes of November meeting amended by Dr. Dean-Hines—add Dr. Lee Cundiff to attendees.
4. Financial reports presented by Dr. Mirus. Discussed investment options for KVMA savings. KVMA is in good financial standing.
5. New membership applications reviewed. Motion made by Dr. Redmon to accept. Second Motion made by Dr. Martinez. Motion carries.
6. Legislative review. • Dr. Weber reviewed current updates on HB-167. It was approved through the House. Next will go to the Senate.
• SB-46 involving the reorganization of the Office of the State Veterinarian. • Review of SB-95 involving the Board of Pharmacy—currently on hold. • Review of SB-37 that allows for out of state pharmacies (including online pharmacies). Tis bill would require that only the chief pharmacist in charge to have a Kentucky license but other pharmacists would not have to have a Kentucky license to fill Kentucky scripts.
• Dr. Giesbrecht discussed the proposed HB-484 involving Rabies. It would allow animal eu- thanasia specialists the ability to give rabies vaccines in shelters or rabies clinics.
• HB-103 and HB-321 were both assigned to the Judiciary committee. SB-230 regarding seizure of animals subjected to cruelty and payment was assigned to Agriculture.
7. Dr. Redmon and Dr. Dean-Hines presented current plans/ideas for 2023 MAVC Conference. 8. Ms. Hamelback presented the KADF/Auburn/KVMA Program. Goals of the project were discussed.
9. Reviewed correspondence from Dean Calvin Johnson. Motion was made by Dr. Laster to financially support this program. Seconded by Dr. Rodgers. Motion carried.
10. Kentucky Dairy Development Council Scholarship. Motion made by Dr. King to donate. Second by Dr. Laster. Motion carried.
11. Motion to renew yearly KEEP dues by Dr. Martinez. Seconded by Dr. Rodgers. Motion carries.
12. Discussion of joint KVMA/KBVE meetings. Extension of start date for these meetings. Plan to com- plete meetings by May 2024.
