MEET THE KVMA LMU CHAPTER OFFICERS

President - Lauren Compton My name is Lauren Compton, and I am afirst-year student! I am from Pikev- ille, KY, a town in Eastern KY. I attended Morehead State University for my bachelor’s degree in veterinary science, and a master’s degree in general biol- ogy. Tere I gained an even greater appreciation for agriculture by learning on our campus’s farm. I also grew up on a small family farm where we raised horses, poultry, goats, and pigs! I have always been very passionate about vet- erinary medicine and growing up in Appalachia I have seen the need for vet- erinarians in our area. Tese mountains have truly raised me from my home- town, my undergraduate town, the tri-state area surrounding LMU, and now serving as the current student advisor for KVMA on our campus. I have so much love for the commonwealth and want to bring my knowledge of vet- erinary medicine back to Kentucky, where I plan to become a mixed animal general practitioner, in Central Kentucky and possibly get into ER medicine.

Vice President & Class of 2025 Rep – Maddie Dedman I spent my whole life growing up in Lexington, KY right next to Keeneland racetrack and have always felt a sense of belonging to horses and the unbridled spirit of the Bluegrass. In my senior year of high school at Paul Laurence Dun- bar, I spent 8 weeks at Lexington Equine Surgery & Sports Medicine to find my love for equine veterinary medicine begin. I continued to receive a Bach- elor’s of Science in Biology at the University of Kentucky. A few years later, I was called to LMU to receive a Master’s of Veterinary Biomedical Sciences, where I matriculated into LMU’s College of Veterinary Medicine. I am now a second year veterinary student at LMU. During my time at LMU, I have had the privilege of going back to my hometown during summer breaks to collab- orate with UK’s research department. I have a wide range of experience with most of my work being a small animal assistant and vet tech. I also have three different species of reptile pets, chickens, and a duck. My current interests lie in surgery, lameness, and theriogenology. I may be pursuing equine medicine, but I have a very soft heart for all creatures. With my range of experience and resources/connections in Lexington and all over the bluegrass, I am happy to help give insight to other students who look to practice in Kentucky.

Secretary – Darci Petercheff My name is Darci Petercheff. I am a non- traditional student who graduat- ed from Somerset Community College with an AS in Biology. I continued my education at Eastern Kentucky University earning a BS in Biology and Chemistry. I am a graduate with honors and high distinction, served as a Stu- dent Ambassador and the President of Phi Teta Kappa International Honor Society. I have served as the Kentucky State Coordinator for English Springer Rescue America for 12 years. Tis is an on going role for me that I am in- credibly passionate about. Prior to returning to academia, I traveled in the pet food industry as a Territory Sales Manager and owned my own pet specialty boutique in Somerset KY. I spent many earlier working years in veterinary medicine. At the age of 38 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was in this moment that I knew I would return to academia to pursue veterinary medi- cine. My goal is to marry my passions of veterinary and integrative medicine, nutrition and end-of-life care. What I will bring to my future clients and their pets is a well-rounded and unique perspective to best support the needs.
