With managing four theaters and an art venue, you must be the busiest man in show business. Where do get your motivation and how do you keep up? Most importantly, I work with a great team of co-workers who make - dinary group of people who work seamlessly together to create a place of pride. I honestly tell people that if I did not manage a venue for a living, I would be a volunteer. My motivation is that I love what I do and what Mesa Arts Center does for the community. I have never worked in a venue or community that had the ability or desire to present such    - ues have such a variation of shows, audiences, and production needs that happen all in the same night. We regularly have four performanc- es happening at the same time while the studios have classes and recep- tions on the property. In looking back over your professional achievements, is there any one thing that stands out far as a memorable moment or success? Over a 30-year career I have had quite a few memorable moments. From a venue manager standpoint, nothing stands out like being the team leader of an internationally televised Republican Presidential primary debate. For me, the debate required that I utilize every skill

that I had in my toolbox (much of what I learned through IAVM). From this event, I have developed serious respect for venues that reg- ularly host mega-events. The debate may have been the outcome, but  there was the debate itself, there was CNN (my client) and the televi- sion show, there was my city, there was the Republican party, and the attendees. Each of the events had dissimilar needs and requirements. My job was to put the puzzle together, while placating all the parties   climate this would be far more challenging. Once the event started, I remember sitting at my desk, speaking to friends on the phone and watching my venue on the international stage. It was a moment of pride, satisfaction, and relief. This event elevated my community in a way that the original planners of the arts center could not have imagined.

What do you see as upcoming trends in the industry for ven- ues to embrace? The industry will have continual technological changes that will im- pact every aspect of operation and   it will not exist. In the future, front of house management will carry tablets. They will issue will call, sell tickets, and help patrons pre-or-

der drinks for intermission. Customer service will continue to be pa- tron-experience driven. Tickets will no longer be the norm, as the cost of technology will allow all venues to become ticketless. The greatest change for the performing arts sector is going to be safety and security. We are all wrestling with the changing safety and security environment  way of creating solutions that do not impact the desired free-thinking
