patch data performance at North Brunswick, NJ, in 2022 was dominated by Chewings fescue entries, but in 2023, strong creeping red entries such as Harbor, Hype, and PPG-FRR-134 performed best for summer patch. And finally, as in 2022, brown patch was noted in 2023 at the Raleigh, NC, location with the least disease seen on strong creeping red fescue entries Navigator III and PVF-HSY+.

outperformed hard fescue entries in some locations. Interestingly, in 2023 data, the three LPI groups resulting from our statistical analysis are separated primarily based on species performance. For instance, LPI group 1 top performers were hard fescues such as Tenacious, Sword II, Beacon II, DLFPS-FL-3104, and PVF-PDB-2020. Top performers in LPI group 2 include Chewings fescues Resonance, DLFPS-FRC-3105, Radar II, PPG- FRC-130, and Brittany 2. LPI group 3 was dominated by strong creeping red fescues with Navigator III, PVF- HSY+, and PPG-FRR-134 as the highest ranking in turf quality. Navigator III is the only entry to finish in the top statistical group in all three analyses. Several ancillary trial locations were initiated
with data collected from some of these sites in 2023. Te Fort Collins, CO, location was managed with saline irrigation with data from 2023 showing only about one- fourth of the entries performing statistically worse than the best performers Cardinal II and RAD-FR64. Trials were planted under tree shade in Newark, DE, and Ames, IA, but statistical significance among entries was again negligible in 2023. Data collected in future years will hopefully separate these entries. Fairway mowing tolerance of entries in this trial
was again evaluated at St. Paul, MN. Hard fescues Sword II and PVF-PDB-2020, as well as strong creeping red fescues Bye and Meso, and slender creeping red fescue BAR FRL 122, were the best performers. Under simulated traffic, hard fescues Beacon II, PVF-PDB-2020, Sword II, DLFPS-FL-3104, and Tenacious were the best entries at Amherst, MA. At East Lansing, MI, Chewings fescues Resonance, PPG-FRC-130, Radar II, Compass II, and BAR FRC 130, among others, finished in the top statistical group. Four important diseases were evaluated in 2023.
Leaf spot damage (various species) was significant at North Brunswick, NJ, with hard fescues Beacon II, DLFPS- FL-3104, PVF-PDB-2020, Resolute, Sword II, and Tenacious, as well as Chewings fescue PVF-MVP-2020 showing the best tolerance. Dollar spot was noted at West Lafayette, IN, with hard fescue SPHD-20 and Chewings fescue PST-4SWTM showing the least disease. Summer

with the first data released in spring 2022. Two species are included in these trials: creeping (Agrostis stolonifera) and colonial bentgrass (Agrostis tenuis). Te third-year summary (2023 data) is now available on our website and is the basis for the bentgrass discussion that follows.
Putting Green Trial Tis trial, containing twenty creeping bentgrasses, was established at nine standard trial locations and ten ancillary trial locations. Turfgrass quality ratings collected in years one and two of the trial revealed several new cultivars that can exceed the quality delivered by previous top performers such as Declaration and Penn A-1. Year three (2023) continued that trend with entries such as PST-0HR, PST-PV-1, Spectrum, and Piper, along with five others, finishing in the top turf quality statistical group. Various ancillary trials were conducted at a limited
number of sites. PST-0HR, PSU-CBG2, Piper, PVF-PV-2, Oakley, Piranha, CY-4, and Spectrum filled out the top statistical group in traffic evaluations conducted at Amherst, MA, in 2023. Sites at West Lafayette, IN, and North Brunswick, NJ, managed their trials by reducing fungicides to encourage disease and evaluate tolerance. Spectrum and Piper were the only entries to finish in the top turf quality group at both sites in 2023. Dollar spot was the main disease noted on the reduced fungicides trials with Spectrum, 007XL, CY-4, and PVF-PV-2 showing the best tolerance. Tis trial was also evaluated ‘on-site’ at four golf
courses, Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, IL; Shadow Glen Golf Club in Olathe, KS; Karsten Creek Country Club in Stillwater, OK; and Tokatee Golf Club in McKenzie Bridge, OR. Some of the better entries in 2023 at the four locations include PST-0HR, Piper, and PSU-CBG1. Diseases were noted at a few locations in year
three of the trial. Dollar spot ratings from three locations showed DLFPS-AP-3084, Spectrum, 007XL, PVF-PV-1, PVF-PV-2, CY-4, and Declaration with the least damage. Similar to 2022, pythium root rot (Pythium spp.) was noted at Raleigh, NC, in 2023 with the best performance from DLFPS-AP-3084, Oakley, Piper, PVF-PV-1, PVF-PV-2, and Spectrum. Lastly, brown patch was evaluated at Blacksburg, VA. PVF-PV-1, PSU-CBG1, PSU-CBG2, PVF-PV-2, and Spectrum were some of the highest rated entries for brown patch.
