TALL FESCUE
ZOYSIAGRASS
Southside Tall Fescue (PPG-TF-267) has great traffic tolerance and exhibits strong lateral growth, keeping a dense canopy through the summer months and into the fall. Southside has a fine leaf texture and a brilliant genetic color as well as improved resistance to drought-like conditions. Tis variety will perform exceptionally well in both low- and high-maintenance applications.
Rebel XpeditionTurf Type Tall Fescue is the new introduction from Pennington Seed, Inc. Te Rebels launched the first Turf Type Tall Fescue grass seed in 1979, revolutionizing the grass seed market. Te Rebels first variety was genetically improved to be finer-bladed and lower growing which made it ideal for lawns because it creates a durable, beautiful turf that is drought tolerant. Trough breeding, Pennington has continued to improve tall fescue genetics by making the grass darker green, finer-bladed, and more resistant to disease. New to the family for 2024, Pennington is introducing Rebel Xpedition. Tis cultivar was developed through our Xtended root program for a deeper, more robust root system. Rebels are rooted deep in turf type tall fescue history and in the actual fields with Rebel Xpedition. Key features include: • Very good summer persistence • Disease-resistant (Brown Patch) • Excellent drought tolerance • Very good turf quality • Good spring green-up • Great winter performance

retention, its drought resistance, and its ability to tolerate a range of mowing heights. It has good shade tolerance for a Zoysia japonica, and it is not as susceptible to large patch as most other commercially available zoysiagrasses. Te enthusiasm for this variety is strong. Sod Solutions
ICON Zoysiagrass®
is the first Brazos™ Zoysia (vegetative) comes from
Te University of Florida’s turfgrass breeding and genetics program, under the direction of Dr. Kevin Kenworthy. Brazos™
Zoysiagrass, discovered in 2006
in Florida's Everglades, features an array of admirable attributes. Brazos, a Zoysia japonica, has been released after showcasing favorable drought responses in nationwide trials, including an ability to retain quality as drought progresses and its ability to recover quickly following a period of rain or adequate irrigation. Brazos has performed well in a variety of conditions in sites across the country and was noted for good establishment, winter color retention, and its consistent performance over a number of testing years. Te 2013 NTEP trial concluded in 2018 with Brazos as the overall #1 performing experimental entry. In the 2019 NTEP trial, Brazos remained one of the standout entries nationwide. Te best qualities of Brazos are its consistent performance across a wide range of growing conditions, its winter color

improved selection of the zoysiagrass species, Zoysia macrantha. Te result of a decade-long, multi-generation seedling selection breeding program, Icon was ultimately selected from other candidates due to its medium to broad blade, ability to maintain turf quality and color under a wide range of conditions, and vigorous lateral growth. While Icon may look similar to other broad-bladed zoysia varieties, Zoysia macrantha is known to be more salt, drought, and disease resistant than other zoysia species historically used in turfgrass breeding. Icon accentuates those inherent benefits exhibiting vigorous growth, exceptional salt tolerance, and improved resistance to large patch disease while improving the aesthetics resulting in a thick, lush turf with a dark emerald-green color. Icon was initially imported into the U.S. from Australia in the mid-2000s, with pot trials beginning in 2007. Field trials began in 2009 with growers in the Carolinas and Florida. In 2011, the first Icon grower was licensed. Icon has now expanded to more than 1000 acres in production. We now plan to add a select number of growers in other markets and regions where zoysiagrass has been proven to perform.
