Joan Heady

(waving) and her late husband, Jim, were recognized for their 30 years of contributions to the Lamborghini Club America.

he weekend of October 21-23 represented a milestone for the annual San Diego Meet of the Lamborghini Club America: It highlighted a quarter century of San Diego meets. It was only fitting that this landmark event featured the well-deserved recognition of the contributions of Jim and Joan Heady, who for nearly 30

years ran the Lamborghini Club America. Jim passed away a few years ago, but Joan joined the weekend events. Joan said that San Diego has always been her favorite club event because it is always a lot of fun and she does not have to do any of the organizing! Tis year we had two main hosts: O’Gara Coach (the autho-

rized Lamborghini dealer for San Diego) and Symbolic International (an exotic car broker and restoration center). Teir sponsorship of our Little Italy event, in particular, is important because of the considerable cost to close an entire street for our parking, hire a live band, maintain security, obtain city permits, etc. On Friday morning, both of our sponsors opened up their Sor-

rento Valley facilities for a walk-through tour by our meet participants. O’Gara and Symbolic are located adjacent to one another, so it was an easy walk from one to the other. O’Gara offered a free mechani- cal inspection—and several owners took advantage of this excellent service—along with a delicious complimentary lunch. At the Symbolic facility, Marc Chase opened up his showroom and shop for a view of his inventory, including an impeccably restored 350 GT and a beautiful Miura. After a few hours, we all headed for our accommodations at the gorgeous Bay Club Hotel to freshen up for the evening affair. Te Friday night event invariably features a dinner in a San

Diego restaurant. Tis venue allows everybody to relax, meet new people, and enjoy some convivial socializing in a comfortable atmo- sphere. Te 2016 kickoff dinner took place at the Il Fornaio restaurant on beautiful Coronado Island. At 6:15 pm, the cars lined up across the street from our hotel; when everybody was ready, our Lamborghini convoy departed for Coronado. Te evening drive included a trip across the ever-scenic San Diego Bay Bridge, the pinnacle of which was the incredible view of the harbor and the nighttime skyline. When we arrived at the restaurant, we parked in a special reserved area that my son Dan had set up. Our group took over the entire covered patio area, where the outdoor seating provided another spec- tacular view of the city. It was a great way to start the weekend in perfect San Diego weather. On Saturday morning, we once again

lined up across from the hotel for our featured daytime event—a drive to the Sycuan Casino in East County San Diego. We departed as a group at about 9:30 and drove on the I-5 and Highway 94, a stretch of road where many inquisitive locals were treated to the sight of a long column of color- ful Lamborghinis. After several miles, we exited the main highways and took a leisurely drive on the back roads to the Sycuan Casino. When we

arrived, attendants guided our cars to a prominent location: directly in front of the casino entry. It was quite a sight to behold. We had a great turnout of 39 cars, representing an excellent cross-section of Automobili
