“He’s just so focused and wants to get better, and get the job done to the best of his ability. I am not surprised, because he’s a young man who never gets satisfied. He’s unbelievably motivated and self-driven, he would go in the gym at the midnight hour — we’d open the gym for him — just to get shots off.”
Anunoby is pure class in so many ways. He's a guy who will never forget his roots. He only spent the first four years of his life in London, but he has still purchased a minority stake in the London Lions Basketball Club to promote the game in the UK. So it's no surprise that OG comes back to Jefferson City every summer to host a youth basketball camp. 'It’s important to give back, it’s important for the kids to see someone doing what I’m doing,” he said during an interview with Rod Smith. “I remember when I was young and seeing someone, and what an impression it made on me. I want to do the same thing for them.” Now he's gone from Jefferson City to New York City. They're about the same, right? “It’s a little different than Jeff City,” OG said with a smile and laugh. “We have amazing fans, amazing teammates, and Mad- ison Square Garden is an amazing sports complex. I love it in New York.” And last season was amazing for both Anunoby and the
Knicks. OG shot 47.6% from the field and averaged a career-high 18 points, while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out two as- sists a game. He was a key part of the amazing season for the Knicks, as
they advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 25 years. The Big Apple was on fire. “It was very special, you could feel the whole city get behind
us,” Anunoby said. “We want to work hard and build off of last year and do even better this year.” If you can make it there, you'll make it anywhere. OG has
made it. But he's still the same extremely humble, kind, gentle, respectful, soft spoken ... and funny ... young man we've come to know and love.
