Camps & Conferences Horizon 2024 Quest and Horizon Recap

By Ryan Gladden, Ministry Intern at Centennial ARP Church

You Belong Here (Quest 2024) “So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints

and members of the household of God.” Ephesians 2:19 For Quest 2024, our speaker was Rev. Clint Davis (Pastor at Chester ARP Church), our

We learn in the story of the Samaritan woman that she was separated from God because of her ethnicity, religion, and sin. Yet, Jesus found her, and even though He knew everything about her, He still offered her living water because He loved her. Like this woman at the well, Jesus will offer Himself to us in the same way. In thinking about being separated from God, ask yourself this question: What are the things that have caused me to be separated from God? Ethnicity (differences with others), religion (background), sin? On the second night, we reemphasized how we were once separated from God to show

Going Home (Takeaways) Ask yourself hard questions regularly: • Am I exercising my faith in Jesus today? • Am I enjoying the forgiving grace and love of God in my life? • Am I taking advantage of the privilege of unlimited access that God has given me to Him? • Do other people see Jesus in me?

Humility means to think of yourself less often than you do God and other people. You are to prioritize other people by showing respect to others by being kind and good to them, us- ing manners, staying out of other people’s business, being inclusive in a Jesus way (there is a moral standard to always be upheld in Scripture; this speaks of a cradle to grave ministry mentality), and quit being so critical. Finally, Rev. Davis explained that we should learn to spell love using T-I-M-E. Love involves spending time with God and others. Take the time this week to pray, read Scripture, and fellowship with fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Be encouraged to know that you belong here in the household of God.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8

I had the opportunity to attend some of Horizon this year and hear sermons from Rev. Zack Keuthan (Church Planter in First Presbytery).

On night 3: Can Jesus Be the Good Shep-

herd? Jesus cares deeply about death. He wept in His heartbroken state at the passing of His friend Lazarus. This shows us that it is okay to feel sad. It is not weak to feel the weight and brokenness of this world. Jesus was deeply moved, knowing that death is not meant to be natural.

On night 4: The Question of Authority (Who Says?) When we are younger (maybe even now), we can ask questions revolv- ing around those in authority over us (Who says? Why are you in charge? Why can you tell me what to do?). On night 5: We Can Find Rest for Our Souls Only in Jesus. Today, many people live in a constant state of hurry and anxiety. To combat any panic, worry, hurry, or fear, we should sit at Jesus’ feet. When we are with Jesus, He casts out our fear because He is a non-anxious presence.

Take-home points: • You may need to stop doing so much. • You need to care for your body (physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually).

• Limit your screen time (phone, TV, computer, etc.).

• Read the Bible and pray consistently. • Say nice things to each other (build each other up instead of tearing each other down).
