Finding the Positive in Negative Times By Sean Hughes I


t is often said, “You are what you eat.” Let’s take this a step further. In most, if not all cases, you are what you consume. Be it food, print, social interactions or any type of media, each of these major categories create a cause and effect. For example, if you consume large amounts of sugar, you will see major health implications


such as momentary energy followed by an energy crash, not to mention weight gain! If you consume negative print or media content, then the outcome is likely a negative outlook. We must be mindful of what we consume.


Take a moment to do a little self-inventory of what you have read, watched or heard the last 24 hours. From social media, news, television or even the conversations you have been around, how much would you say was of the positive vs. negative in nature?


It takes a lot of self-discipline to be consumers of things that are positive vs things that are negative. Negativity breeds negativity. The DNA of negativity is not to miraculously produce positivity. Oh wait, you’re right, a negative number multiplied by a negative number does become a positive… -2 x -2  in society this equation does not work. Negativity will yield negativity 100% of


 you reap what you sow.


I recently had the privilege of speaking at the Memorial Service for my former High School Vice Principal who passed away. She was not only a great mentor of mine in my formative years, but she had also


become a life-long friend.


Over the course of our 25+ years of friendship we had several conversations. We would talk over different choices I had made while in High School and yes, these conversations usually  after doing something stupid, while other conversations
