MOVING MOUNTAINS
Building Our Future Workforce
BY PETER TATEISHI, CEO E
very year, we ask our members to rank their top concerns facing the industry. For over five years straight,
AGC of California members communicated that developing a pipeline of workers for construction is the number one issue facing the construction industry. People are our top priority, whether
they are existing or future employees. As an industry, we must continue to invest in our employees. AGC of California helps you do just that. We provide comprehensive programs
and resources to help build your competen- cy, address workforce needs, and invest in our industry’s future. Last year, over 2,000 in- dividuals participated in AGC of California’s training courses, over 12,000 young people engaged with our Build California program, and more than $130,000 in scholarships were awarded across the state to students, apprentices and high school programs — all in an effort to work together to build the future of California construction. When you look at our members’ and the
industry’s engagement with our workforce development programs, the overwhelm- ingly positive response and participation reflects that AGC of California is not just on the right track, but providing the kinds of resources, programs, and services that are essential to invest in your people and teams.

CALIFORNIA CONSTRUCTOR JULY/AUGUST 2023
Tis year, we launched our second co-
hort of Project Engage and are excited to be offering this premier leadership develop- ment program that develops leaders worth following so that they can build organizations worth belonging to. Project Engage, much like our efforts through our DE&I and SUB forums, helps our industry invest in our people and, more importantly, our culture. Te existing and future workforce of
construction deserves, and demands, a high performing culture that supports all people and creates both a welcoming experience and a sense of belonging. We are proud to provide toolkits, services, programs, and forums where members can learn, engage and influence the culture of their organization and the construction industry at large. If you are not already taking part in
our many offerings, I encourage you to get engaged and participate in the many programs AGC of California offers. We are all in this together, and our future workforce is contingent on the culture we are building now for our industry.
