n April 5, 2022, more than 400 people gathered at the Craneway Pavilion in Richmond, California, for the highly successful Small Business Construction Expo (SBCX), sponsored by AGC of California. Te annual event connects growing

State Board of Directors, delivered the keynote address in which she shared her insight on the unique challenges contractors face when growing a family- owned business. “Every business starts small, and the


challenges of growing that business can seem insurmountable,” said Teichert, noting that early business decisions can often affect a contractor’s trajectory. “It is vital for small contractors to know what those challenges are so they can make informed decisions to best direct their company’s future.” Teichert, an infrastructure builder in the commercial and residential sectors, has grown from a company of one into an employer of 2,700 workers across California.


Panel Discussion Tis year’s SCBX featured “Ask the Experts: 4 Key Areas of Doing Business in Califor- nia,” a panel discussion which explored topics essential for a successful contract- ing business, including contract review, licensing and insurance requirements. Panelists included Anna Carno, Car-
