MAKING MOVES

Blach Construction Celebrates Historic Grand Opening Blach Construction recently joined the Tanforan Assembly Center Memorial Committee (TACMC) to celebrate the unveiling of a historic memorial plaza and bronze statue to honor the 8,000 Bay Area residents of Japanese ancestry who were unjustly imprisoned at Tanforan “Assembly Center” during World War II. Located at the San Bruno Bay Area Rapid

Transit (BART) Station, the memorial’s ribbon cutting celebration marked the culmination of a 10-year effort by TACMC to create a permanent feature that documents and pays homage to the

many people affected. Blach Construction served as general contractor for the project, installing the statue and constructing elements for the plaza, including benches, seat walls and a conceptual horse stall to represent the accommodations of those detained at Tanforan. Te memorial also includes bronze panels listing the name of those imprisoned at the

Tanforan internment camp, as well as a multitude of historical quote markers. “Our devotion to seeking projects that align closely with our values as a service-minded builder was greatly exemplified through our work with the Memorial Committee on this impactful and long-awaited project,” said Blach President Dan Rogers. “Te Tanforan Me- morial is an invaluable asset to the Bay Area, serving to memorialize our past and shape our future, a future that ensures equity for all.”

Newly Created Program to Help Small, Diverse Contractors Small and diverse contractors in the Los Angeles region have a new source of help in bidding and obtaining work on infrastructure development and other publicly funded construction projects, thanks to a newly created program in the Los Angeles region. The regional program – dubbed the regional Contractor Development and Bonding Pro- gram (CDABP) – involves the City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County Metro, and the County of Los Angeles. Te program will provide bonding assistance, con- tract financing, technical support, education, training and other services to under-represented businesses. AGC of California member company Merriwether & Williams Insurance Services (MWIS) will administer all three prongs of the program. Te company has many years of experience working on public construction contracting and diversity, equity and inclusion issues statewide. “This program will help to

create greater equity in regional public contracting,” said Ingrid Merriwether, CEO of MWIS. “Tis is an inclusionary program to build a stronger region.” Bonding and access to con-

tract funding can be major im- pediments for small and diverse contractors to be able to bid and successfully participate on pub- lic works projects. Te regional CDABP helps reduce these and other barriers. For more informa- tion, visit www.LAConDev.com.
