Igniting a Career in Construction
M
elissa Bradway’s journey from a payroll outside sales representative to a business development associate at Rex Moore Electric is a growth narrative. A desire for a
closer-knit work environment and a familial connection and admi- ration for the company culture spurred her transition. Her uncle’s tenure as an electrician at Rex Moore and her appreciation for their growth mentality and 100-year history made the company appealing.
Transition and Growth: As a recruiter at Rex Moore Electric, Bradway’s path led her to project management and busi- ness development. Em- bracing the challenges of a newly created role, she navigated through trial and error, backed by mentors and her in- depth understanding of the electrical field. She reflected on her journey, “I have to really navigate a brand-new role to myself and to the company, too, and the experience from working in project management has been invaluable to help pave the way.”
Daily Motivation and Advice: Now focusing on securing the company’s future business and working with existing clients, Bradway tackles the challenge of winning bids with a resilient mindset, comparing it to maintaining a batting average. “You’re going to lose more than you win, but you can’t let that hold you back,” she states, emphasizing the importance of perseverance. She advises those aspiring to similar heights, “Find a mentor, build your network, and don’t be afraid to fail.” Bradway’s story inspires emerging leaders, emphasizing the need for adaptability, mentorship, and a resilient spirit. As she continues to shape her career and influence the industry, her journey is a powerful reminder of where passion and determination can lead. “I really want to make sure people know that they can come to me
and trust me with their projects,” Bradway concludes, highlighting her commitment to excellence and trustworthiness.
