SBCTA Receives ‘Owner of Year’ Award

Ural Yal with Flatiron Construction, left, presented the “Owner of the Year” award to representatives from the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority.

For the first time, AGC of California presented an “Owner of the Year” award during the 2024 Awards Gala February 2 in San Francisco. This award honors and recognizes a public or private owner who values the

relationship between the owner and the contractor – one who strives for excellence through partnership, collaboration, and advancements to the industry at large. The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) received the award for 2024, highlighting the unique partnership and success experienced between the owner and contractor on the Redlands Passenger Rail Project. The challenging nature of this project was evident from the start, with a tight

schedule and the need for daily coordination with various stakeholders, including cities, railroads, utility companies, and local businesses. Despite potential unforeseen con- ditions along the long and active railroad alignment, SBCTA’s leadership in teamwork, transparency, and proactive issue resolution made a significant difference. Partnership was a key theme throughout the project, facilitated by SBCTA’s com-

mitment to fostering relationships at every level. Open communication, shared office space, and regular executive team meetings created an environment conducive to effective project management and an enjoyable workplace. SBCTA’s dedication to excellence and a collaborative approach played a pivotal role in the success of the Redlands Passenger Rail Project.
