our mission

Prepare exceptional nurse leaders in an academic learner-centered environment.

our vision To be a national academic leader in nursing education, research and scholarship.

Over the next five years we intend to build on our strengths to become a nationally recognized school with a strong reputation for both undergraduate and graduate programs. Goldfarb graduates will be known for their leadership, scholarship and clinical excellence. Our collaboration with community partners will reduce health disparities in the St. Louis region and improve access and quality of care for those most vulnerable. And our research will receive federal, foundation and other funding and improve the quality of health care.

Our plan addresses the current and anticipated challenges and opportunities in higher education and health care.

• Demographic shifts have reduced the college-age population while increasing the health care needs of an aging population.

• Health care providers and policymakers are shifting care models through science and technology advancements, seeking community-based strategies for health inequities, and focusing on primary and preventive care as well as acute management of illness and injury.

• A culturally diverse nursing workforce is needed to provide sensitive, responsive care as part of interprofessional teams.

• The cost of a college education and need for flexible teaching models require fresh thinking about education.

• Education opportunities for nurses must be robust from the baccalaureate level through post-doctoral education.

• Nurses increasingly need leadership and interdisciplinary teamwork skills to improve patient safety and outcomes.

• Nurse scientists are researching clinical care, health equity, educational practices, policy, technology, systems and more.
