imagine a future
imagine... A Goldfarb nursing student learns about the clinical
drivers of infant mortality and the devastating mortality rate among Black/African American babies. In another class, she reviews the evidence for optimal infant care, including social determinants of health, and hears Goldfarb researchers’ promising findings on low-birthweight newborns.
imagine... In clinicals next term, she applies this evidence
in the community and learns more about the ways social determinants affect a person’s health and health care experience.
imagine... She is inspired to organize further assistance to
new mothers within a student club. Wanting to do more, she proposes a project with other students and faculty and receives seed funding and academic credit from Goldfarb.
imagine... The successful project proves the value of a new
elective on nursing’s impact on social determinants of infant care. In partnership with community organizations, Goldfarb enables broad-based, sustainable focus in this area, helping to close the gap in outcomes for Black/African- American babies and helping all St. Louis babies to thrive.
imagine... She graduates with a demonstrated competency
in infant care and a passion for equitable care, alongside a diverse cohort of equally informed and inspired graduates.
imagine...What that Goldfarb graduate will accomplish next:
• a PhD with a research focus on infant mortality...
•community-based nursing...
• application of her passion for equitable care in a BJC hospital...
• a bioscience entrepreneur role...
• a leadership track in BJC or a local nonprofit...
imagine... hundreds of Goldfarb graduates like this one.
