PRAYING WITH CHANT INTENSIVE: INCORPORATING CHANT INTO THE PARISH LITURGY

This workshop is designed for directors of parish liturgical music and singers in parish liturgies. Join the liturgical musicians of Saint Meinrad and be immersed in the beauty and utility of English and Latin chant for today’s liturgy. Participants will learn the important principles of reading, singing, and directing chant while becoming acquainted with some of the most important chants for the liturgical year. Specific topics include approaching chant as sung speech, understanding modality, reading square-note notation, chanting the responsorial psalm, and leading a chant schola. Emphasis will be on the practical with plenty of opportunities to sing as we learn.

The Essentials of Catholic Liturgy (ECL) Track 3 is a wonderful opportunity for those with a solid understanding of the liturgy. It emphasizes the celebration of the Eucharist as the source and summit of Christian life. ECL provides a collaborative form of learning that combines expert presentations on the history and theology of liturgy with a chance to engage in mystagogical reflections with others in the course.

Paul French Don’t miss this opportunity to join an 80-voice choir under the direction of Paul French which culminates in an incredible choral event on Wednesday evening. For over three decades Paul has worked in parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago and currently serves as the Director of Music at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, where he leads a thriving choral program of adult and children’s voices. A composer of more than 200 instrumental and choral works, he was the Director of Choral Recordings for World Library Publications for 20 years and is also the editor of a series of choral works for children’s choirs, under the distinguished banner of the American Federation Pueri Cantores. Mr. French also serves as the President of the Board of Directors of the American Federation Pueri Cantores, the official student choral organization of the Roman Catholic Church.
