THE CALL TO DISCIPLESHIP AS A RESPONSE TO THE CALL TO HOLINESS Joyce Ann Zimmerman

We ourselves don’t simply choose to be disciples; we are called to discipleship which transforms us and is transforming for others. Our faithful response to this call draws us more deeply into God’s very Life, the grace that is holiness. This session addresses discipleship, vocation as call and response, the elements of biblical call narratives, and holiness as grounding us in being that transforms our doing.

A BALM IN GILEAD: RENEWAL AFTER A SEASON OF GRIEF ValLimar Jansen

The words of the spiritual sing,"There is a Balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole." Balm of Gilead was a rare perfume which had medicinal properties. Jeremiah 8:22 asks, "Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there?" There is spiritual medicine that is able to make us whole. There is healing for the wounds of God's people. God is the Great Physician! We have experienced a catastrophic season of pandemic, quarantine, death, social rebellion, and unprecedented loss on many levels. ValLimar will utilize Holy Scripture, music, storytelling, reflection and exhortation to help express our grief and move us along the path toward spiritual healing and wholeness. Please bring a picture of anyone you lost during the pandemic for a special slideshow during the session's closing prayer.

WE SHOULD GLORY IN THE CROSS: PREPARING THE BILINGUAL TRIDUUM WITH STYLE AND GRACE, PART 1 Tony Alonso

In response to the vibrant and growing Catholic Latino population in the United States, Roman Catholic parishes have increasingly celebrated the liturgies of the Paschal Triduum bilingually. Pastoral musicians have often been on the frontlines of this work, preparing the liturgies of the Three Days in ways that bridge linguistic, cultural, and musical differences. This two-part session will explore the challenges and opportunities of the bilingual Triduum with a special focus on how to honor difference while binding the Church as one at these liturgies at the heart of the liturgical year. The first part will explore the liturgies of Holy Thursday and Good Friday; the second will explore the Easter Vigil.

THE CONSEQUENCES OF LITURGY: CHARITY, JUSTICE, AND EVANGELIZATION Timothy Johnston and Michael Ruzicki

Sent forth from the Eucharistic liturgy, we are called to cooperate with the Holy Spirit to renew the face of the earth. In Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship, we learn that the normal consequences of liturgy are charity, justice, and evangelization (9). In this three-part series, participants will examine specific ways to intentionally link music and liturgy to these consequences. In this intentionality, a parish will be renewed and transformed for Spirit-filled ministry.
