So often we think of psalmody only in the form of the Responsorial Psalm. This session will explore opportunities to integrate psalms into Sunday worship beyond just the Liturgy of the Word and demonstrate accessible ways to cultivate a spirituality of psalm singing within the greater parish community.

Many liturgical musicians use sound systems in their ministries but often have little training in the nuts and bolts of how they work. This session will cover the basics of these systems and will help the attendees understand how best to use microphones, mixers, and speakers to enhance liturgy. The information provided can also help musicians offer input to the specification and installation of new equipment in their churches.

From assessments/auditions to warm-up strategies, and so much in between (recruitment/retention, creative repertoire selection, navigating relations with the pastor and prickly personalities, intonation issues, balancing the musical/spiritual/ social dimensions, budgets/funding, the challenges of involving professionals in an essentially volunteer environment, etc.), these workshops will explore the myriad big and little things that help to create a “culture of success”.

What do we risk and what do we lose when we let passive familiarity and fear win? Come discover a richness of repertoire and new ways we can be living waters of hope for all.
