LISTENING TO THE VOICE OF THE SPIRIT / ESCUCHANDO LA VOZ DEL ESPIRITU Julio De Leon

Sometimes it’s easy to forget the third person of the Trinity—the Holy Spirit. It is the Spirit, however, that moves and gives us life. The Spirit can be unwieldy and unpredictable. It does not wait for a schedule to show up, but can be powerfully present at the most unexpected times leading us to the most profound experiences. How can we balance rubrics and ritual with listening to the voice of the Spirit in our ministry?

ARE YOU GRATEFUL? THE POWER OF GRATITUDE Meredith Augustin and Lorraine Hess

Recent studies laud the transformative power of gratitude. How it improves our spiritual, physical, emotional, and social well-being. How it builds greater optimism, happiness and self-esteem. How it strengthens our bonds and feelings of connection to God and one another. How it enhances our health, heart and immune system. How it decreases stress, anxiety, depression, and headaches. The list goes on. Please join Meredith and Lorraine in this gratitude workshop as they unearth both the scriptural and physical roots of gratitude and discover the inner “soul” of gratitude, what “makes it tick,” and how it can reveal your deepest resources and transform your life.

THE INTANGIBLES OF A SUCCESSFUL CHORAL PROGRAM, PART 1 Paul French

From assessments/auditions to warm-up strategies, and so much in between (recruitment/retention, creative repertoire selection, navigating relations with the pastor and prickly personalities, intonation issues, balancing the musical/spiritual/ social dimensions, budgets/funding, the challenges of involving professionals in an essentially volunteer environment, etc.), these workshops will explore the myriad big and little things that help to create a “culture of success”.

GOD HAS BREATHED THE CREATIVE SPIRIT: THE LITURGICAL COMPOSER Frank Klose

Sing to the Lord notes that “[in] every age, the Church has called upon creative artists to give new voice to praise and prayer” (81). While the Church has recognized the work of the “musicians’ hearts and hands,” Sing to the Lord mentions that this work is God at work, continuing to “breathe forth [God’s] creative Spirit” (81). This session examines the role of the liturgical composer, particularly in light of the Second Vatican Council, highlighting how the Spirit has inspired music that has brought many to faith.
