The January issue of Pastoral Music is always exciting to receive, since we get our first in- depth look at our upcoming National Convention. This issue is no different and also features information about our 2022 Colloquium in Nashville, Tennessee for Premium members. The Colloquium will focus on embracing inculturation with the theme “Open Hearts and Minds: Intercultural Mystagogia for Pastoral Leaders.”

We are thrilled that the 2022 National Convention will offer both in-person and virtual experiences. The in-person convention will be held in Louisville, KY, June 28 - July 1, 2022, at the historic Galt House in downtown Louisville. We are grateful to the Archdiocese of Louisville for graciously opening their city to NPM once again. The virtual convention will take place July 5 - 7, 2022, with recorded content available for both in-person and virtual participants through September 30, 2022.

The past few years have tested us as a Church—the pandemic, the call to racial justice, the need to end abuse—we are well poised to respond. We have been “tested by fire,” and we have been “renewed and transformed”. We invite you to embrace the theme of this year’s National Convention with us, as we know the work of the Holy Spirit is never complete, just as we are never complete in our spiritual journey.

The city of Louisville and its surrounding area offer so much to us. Not only is Louisville filled with beautiful spaces, but the city also brings a rich history of horse racing at Kentucky Downs, a well-known bourbon trail, and some of the best baseball bats in the world. But that’s only the beginning. Nearby you will find the Abbey of Gethsemane and gravesite of Thomas Merton, and Bardstown, home of the second Catholic Archdiocese in the United States. Louisville is enriched by the people who call the area home, and you’ll get to meet many of those people who are serving on our local committee or as volunteers during the week.

We’re also excited to bring back in-person institutes for the first time in three years. You’ll have the option to choose from the Choral Institute, the Handbell Festival, the Organ Crawl, the Chant Institute, and a Spanish-language Instituto for those involved in Hispanic Ministry. This first of its kind Instituto is co-sponsored by NPM, OCP, and the Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Hispanic Ministry.

Registration for the in-person and virtual event opens on January 10, 2022, at 9:00 am ET. We look forward to seeing you in Louisville and online!
