FEDA NEWS & VIEWS
MISSION FORWARD
Driving Winning Outcomes for Dealers and the Industry
By building bridges across the industry and driving business policy, the FEDA Annual Conference creates opportunities for solutions.
Dealers drive good things for the industry and FEDA,
itself,
certainly works to drive business to our members. Those goals are inseparable. We understand that when everyone wins,
sustainable conditions for FEDA’s
members and frees them to focus on innovation. One way we encourage this outcome is by building
bridges between foodservice equipment distribution companies and foodservice operators. This occurs year-round through FEDA’s involvement with the National Restaurant Association’s legislative advocacy efforts and at special events such as the FEDA Annual Conference, which has previously featured foodservice insights from Food Network celebrities and major chain operators. We are excited to present Brinker International (Chili’s, Maggiano’s) CEO Kevin Hochman as the keynote speaker for the 2023 conference. Expanding on his own experiences leading two of the country’s best-known restaurant brands, Hochman will also pull apart how his hospitality chain views its relationship with equipment distributors and identify growth opportunities for everyone involved. Attendees should come prepared to learn about Hochman’s approach to simplifying business and operations. They will have a chance to engage directly with him during a special Q&A discussion moderated by Emily Knight from the Texas Restaurant Association. In addition to building better understanding of
operators, the association leads public policy efforts on behalf of members by working alongside advocacy groups on antitrust, labor, regulatory, tax and other critical issues for businesses. Tackling those issues requires a thorough comprehension of the interconnection between policy, business and global politics, and FEDA could not ask for a more qualifi ed special guest speaker for the conference to share his knowledge in these areas than Gen. John Kelly, former White House chief of staff and Marine leader. A combat general who earned deep respect from all the services under his joint command, it is a momentous honor

for FEDA to welcome someone with Gen. Kelly’s courage and reputation to our conference stage. We’re eager to hear his perspectives on our national and world challenges and how businesses can lead others toward positive change.
it creates Boot Camp Sessions and Special Topic
“There is no better place to come together, solve problems and cement business relationships.”
Roundtables In recognition of our top Marine guest and to make our conference learning more focused, fast and fun, FEDA will offer, for the fi rst time, two boot camp sessions for all attendees. The sessions, presented back- to-back on the main stage, will be led by dealer and manufacturer executives and cover several integral aspects of distribution: bid work, procurement and sourcing, design-build and contracts — and the strategic relationships critical to each area. The FEDA Annual Conference is a
solutions-oriented event, and that design is reinforced through the topics for this year’s roundtable sessions: installation/service
and manufacturer representation. The fi rst roundtable session will guide participants
through developing
agreement about equipment unloading, installation, start- up, performance checks and ongoing service. Attendees will generate ideas for potential new processes for each of these steps, defi ne roles, identify what’s missing and needed from various groups, and learn how partners can support customers in an overall more effi cient, organized process. The second roundtable discussion will center on creating
constructive and successful partnerships between dealers and manufacturer reps. Participants will discuss how to solve some of the sticking points between groups, such as clarifying performance expectations from the beginning of a deal and working effectively with the rep regional structure in a sales world generally no longer defi ned by territories or other boundaries. There is no better place to come together, solve
problems and cement business relationships. We invite you to join us at the 2023 FEDA Annual Conference and help us drive the industry ahead.
Tracy Mulqueen is the CEO of FEDA.
