It’s a great way to foster in-depth learning without needing to set aside large periods of time, making it the perfect format for two new sessions at the 2023 FEDA Annual Conference. The boot camps, which will be held from 11-11:55 a.m. CDT Oct. 25 during the opening general session on the main stage, will examine two of the most common approaches to the market for dealers: bid work and design-build.
With bid work representing an
increasing share of revenue across all industries — up 6 percent since 2022 — it’s important to identify ways to stand out in this competitive area of work. The first boot camp training will cover bid work, procurement and sourcing, and the strategic relationships needed for success. Experienced and knowledgeable dealer CEOs will lead the audience through the key elements and good practices in managing bid work, procurement and sourcing today, as well as how to build the right partners to win and fulfill a bid. Some of the topics for this session
include:
• How dealers and their partners can create an advantage for both during the bid process
• Building implementation plans that ensure timely communication, delivery and troubleshooting, as needed
• Preventing problems during procurement and sourcing via good practices and partnerships Design-build projects represent another area of consistent growth, with the Design Build Institute of America forecasting that design-build construction spending will grow 7.6 percent annually through 2025. By providing a comprehensive list of services that include design-build, dealers can earn more on every sale
and maintain control through the process. To capture this opportunity, the second boot camp session will focus on design-build, contracts and the supportive partnerships needed for realizing lucrative project outcomes. FEDA is fortunate to feature member CEOs with strong design-build and contract expertise who also possess a deep understanding of the types of design-build relationships necessary to achieve final, profitable results. This session’s content will focus on:
• Offering multiple value propositions for customers through dealers’ expert equipment knowledge, their ability to deliver unique and creative designs, and experience generating construction document sets for design team and construction team partners
• Working effectively with and managing teams of architects, MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) subcontractors, foodservice staff and community stakeholders • Understanding current state and municipal codes and how they may impact the operational flow of a customer’s business
• The importance of continuous training and knowledge about the role of robotics, internet of things, building information modeling and augmented reality when developing designs • The benefit of clearly defined, concise contracts between the design-builder and owner that cover project aspects such as consultant services and relationships with subcontractors and other partners
In addition, manufacturing CEOs will facilitate and participate in the boot camp sessions to share their insights and perspectives on all these areas of work. They will also guide interactive discussion between the speakers and the audience by managing the Q&As.
