od’s word tells us in Titus 2:2 that “Older men are to be sober-minded, and I want to tell you a story about him. On Monday morning, May 2, Mr. Earle Tyler pulled me aside and told me that he was going to have to retire from his volunteer “First Monday of the Month” position. Mr. Tyler had been motoring into town on Mondays (and many other days, as well) for quite a number of years to give us a much-needed hand at the front desk. He told me he thought it was time for him to call it a day and that it Month” position. children. Over the long life that God has given him, he met his beloved Mayme at a local drug store in Gates, North Carolina, where she worked at the soda fountain. He is a decorated veteran of World War II, during which he served in was transferred by the company a number of times over the years; and, sometime after their time in Greenville, moved to Columbia. Mr. & Mrs. Tyler joined our church in August 1976, and since then he has taught Sunday School, participated in countless volunteer works of the church, and has served with distinction as a Deacon, an Elder, and as an Elder Emeritus of First Presbyterian Church.
and fruitful life. It would take a book to tell the rest of his story. However, with the space allotted, I hope this will give you a glimpse at one of the many gems amongst us. I know each of you will want to thank him for his service to God’s kingdom and to our church. To say Mr. Tyler will be missed here in the church All the best to you, Mr. Tyler, in your days ahead.

Powerlifting Record
Anne Horton, Greenville ARP Church, holds a record in powerlifting. She set the state of South Carolina record, as recog- nized by the United States Powerlifting Association, in the group “Master Women 75 to 79.” She won this title in bench press and deadlift. Congratulations, Anne!
