Sherwood met his dad on the front walk as he was coming home from work.
He waved some papers in front of his dad and told him the story of hearing two chores to earn some money to buy what he wanted. The second boy said, “Why don’t you just pray that God will get you what you
want? He can do anything.” Sherwood said that it sounded pretty good to him so he made a list of things he
wanted to pray for. His dad looked at the list and said, “Sherwood, there are things on the list that I
told you that you couldn’t have already.” Sherwood said, “Yes, but...” Dad cut him off short and said, “Don’t you remember
why I said no? I said no because I love you and you didn’t need those things. They could hurt you or be bad for you!” Dad went on and said, “Prayer is like that. We should not go to God with a long wish list of things we want. He is not like an online store for us to place orders for things. That’s not what prayer is all about. Prayer is a blessing from God that helps
us talk with God and thank Him for all His goodness to us, and bring our needs and troubles to him.” Dad told Sherwood that God loves us enough to say “no” to the prayers we ought not to pray. Sherwood said that he understands now that he should not pray that the girls at school who always made fun of the boys
would have their hair turn purple and fall out. Or that the school bully would get beat up. Dad said, “Now you’re getting it! We ought not ask God to do bad things to people we are mad at or don’t like!” asking for good things.”
A haven in the mountains far above most worldly cares,
A peaceful resting place where you can be sure A place where merry streams trickle by, and the calm lake ripples in the breeze,
A place where luscious grass and moss thrive in the shade of the trees.
A place to retreat any time of year, A place you’ll look forward to,
A place where you have all the time in the world, yet you always have something to do.
A place where friends – both old and new – you will undoubtedly greet,
A place where everyone feels like family – no matter whom you meet.
A place to have wholesome conversations A place where God works wonders in the hearts of both young and old.
A place of ziplining, kayaking, and gagaballing, A place of adventure, laughter, and games,
A place of Christian fellowship and worship, A place to sing songs of praise!
