T

hose of us in attendance were not dressed in 1920s attire, but other than that, the similarities between our 100th Anniversary Celebration held here on July 2, 2022, and the Grand Opening of Bonclarken held on July 4, 1922, were

many! At both celebrations, the attendees enjoyed a wonderful meal on the front lawn, enjoyed the fellowship and excitement of a vitally important day in the life of Bonclarken, and thanked God for His goodness and mercy in making Bonclarken such a blessed place for us Associate Reformed Presbyterians. We welcomed over 300 friends for lunch, the historical marker dedication, and a Service of Worship as part of our 100th Anniversary Celebration. All of these activi- ties were planned by the 100th Anniversary Planning Committee, chaired by Jane Shelton Dale of Camden (AL) ARP Church.

The new historical marker is located adjacent to our main parking area and gives a description of Bonclarken’s founding in 1922. We hope guests will enjoy read- ing the information on this marker and learning about Bonclarken’s history. The Service of Worship featured comments from Dr. Bob Robinson, memories from Rev. Rick Lewis, and a message from Rev. Andrew Shoger. The service was a wonderful capstone to a glorious day. We were pleased to have over thirty entries for our 100th Anniversary Youth Art Competition. Prizes were given to the various age group winners and Elizabeth Blackman’s artwork won Best of Show. Elizabeth is from the Cannon’s Creek-Pros- perity ARP Church in Prosperity, SC. We are still accepting Bonclarken memories on our website! If you have a

great memory from a visit to Bonclarken, please share them on our website (www.bonclarken.org). Throughout 2022, I have been and will continue to write articles about the beginning, development, and future plans for our conference center. Past articles described Bonclarken’s beginning and development which led to Synod’s agreeing to take over governance in 1948. Be on the lookout for my next article describing the activities of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.
