Cayce Presbyterian Church By Rev. Brad Anderson O

be called Cayce Presbyterian Church. How did we get here? In December of 2020 a Vision Team was formed to

This team was tasked to go through the process of understand- ing the life and ministry of Edwards Memorial over the decades of its existence, and then help map future ministry in our congregation and to our community. The process helped us establish a new mission statement, 4 Core Values, and a strategy going forward. All of these central ideas were adopted by the session. The last time the Vision Team met the question was asked of them, “Imagine that we are a church plant. Who would we be to our community?” One of the responses from a Vision Team member was, “If we were a church plant, would we name ourselves Edwards Memorial?” As discussion grew, it seemed that others on the team wondered the same thing. It only took a few minutes, and the name Cayce Presbyterian Church surfaced as a potential “new” name for the church. From there the name needed to be taken to the congregation for a vote, and then Catawba Presbytery needed to approve the name change. Selecting the name Cayce Presbyterian Church is simply reaching way back to the beginning of this church and using the name it had as a mission congrega- In order to carry out the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ (Mark 16:15) and with the authority of the Home Missions Board, the “Cayce, A.R.P. In the end, we are digging deep into our history to guide the future of our ministry together—Cayce Pres- byterian Church is very similar to Cayce ARP Mission. The name iden- serve, and we desire to blossom right where the Lord planted us so many years ago. There is a strong desire to keep honoring our history and those fami- lies that helped build and guide this congregation in the way of the Gos- pel since 1957. Wanting to keep our connection with Centennial ARP Church and the Edwards family, the session voted to name the fellowship hall the “Edwards Memorial Fellow- ship Hall.” We are very thankful for many years. Cayce Presbyterian Church has a rich history of Biblical faithfulness, community relationships, deep fel- lowship of the saints, and care for its missionaries. May we continue to be those people as we look forward to reaching our community with the Good News of Jesus Christ. May we endeavor to keep our mis- sion before us: Connecting our Com- munity to the Good News and Hope of Jesus Christ. Our four core values (God-centered Worship, Joyfully Con- nected, Engaged Disciples, and Mean- ingful Mission) will help keep us rooted in the direction of ministry in which the Lord calls us to serve. The Gospel offers the unity we
truly need. It is the only remedy to unite God and his people (Acts 4:12). We need to remind one another of the work of Christ, speaking it to the next generation, growing in it as we are united to Christ, and building up one power of the Holy Spirit.
It is a blessing to be part of this community that truly proclaims “Be- hold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!”— es- pecially when our unity is ground- ed in shared faith, trusting in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
