Shadows Foundation

…providing services & financial assistance for people and families affected with a life threatening disease.

by MIRIAM LUCERO with VICKI BURNTON-TAUNTON photography by MIRIAM LUCERO

seeking grant submissions, working with generous private donors, and holding fund raising events, the Shadows Foundation allocates assistance and services to individuals and their families at times of greatest need.

T Disease strikes indiscriminately and can ravish those struck.

Disease doesn’t care about age, faith or finances, family or friends. Dis- ease pays no attention to mortgage, utilities or grocery bills; the size of a Wall Street portfolio or balance in a checking account; whether the electricity is on or a porch light needs to be changed.

To date Shadows has provided assistance to more than 200 families and individuals residing in Northern Arizona, and surrounding communities.

Even though you may feel that you are fighting alone in your search for these answers, all you have to do is hold your face to the sun and you will have your shadow with you. When there are dark days, and your shadow re- mains hidden, let the Shadows Foundation be your support and assurance.

Vicki Burton-Taunton, President/Founder

In 2010, Vicki knew her soul passion was to help others after losing her aunt years before. Her drive was strong and she wanted to share this pur- suit with those in need. She gathered a team that shared her enthusiasm and formed the 501(c)3 organization, Shadows Foundation. From that moment forward, she has lead the organization as it engages in serving families in Northern Arizona and promotes a unified voice to help those less fortunate and increase awareness throughout the community.

Vicki knows the importance of partnerships with other charity organiza- tions and how working together toward a common goal grows communi- ty business involvement.

he Shadows Foundation is a local, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organiza- tion, based in Flagstaff, Arizona. Shadows is dedicated to help- ing those individuals in need who are affected by life threat- ening diseases by providing services and financial assistance when they need it most. By collaborating with local businesses,

Cancer hit her family again when both Vicki and her mother were diagnosed with the disease. Both have re- covered but she said the scars from the experience run deep.

Recently, Shadows Foundation partnered with the Flagstaff Police Dept to develop a compassionate solution to panhandling, the Better Bucks Program. With the assistance of participating businesses this program allows donors to purchase vouchers that can be given instead of cash and used for non-alcoholic and non-tobacco related goods. In recogni- tion for her efforts and partnership in this program, Vicki was awarded the Flagstaff Police Departments Community Champion Award. This award is given to a person/business/ entity that goes above and beyond in nurturing intra community relationships.
