With a varied background in veterinary medicine, microbiology, and pathology, Alan has collaborated on numerous research projects with investigators at the Gluck Equine Research Center, with others at UK, and with individuals throughout the United States. Prior research projects have focused on salmonellosis, por- cine clostridial enteritis, porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus, swine and equine influenza, equine proliferative enteropathy, equine rhodococcosis, equine cyathostomiasis, equine viral arteritis, mouse models of equine herpesvirus infection, rat models for glioma development, equine hydroallantois, equine postpartum uterine involution, equine cervical remodeling, and pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction.

Dr. Loynachan has authored or co-authored 50 peer-reviewed publications and has contributed to approximately 100 presentations within Kentucky and throughout the world. Additionally, Alan has helped train 25 graduate students or residents of various veterinary disciplines. In 2020, he became an adjunct faculty member of the Lincoln Memo- rial University (LMU) School of Veterinary Medi- cine and he currently contributes to the pathology instruction of senior LMU veterinary students. Dr. Loynachan has agreed to serve a one-year term as Interim director and looks forward to interact- ing with the KVMA, other pertinent stakehold- ers, and citizens throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky. 
