PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Hello Friends and Colleagues, I hope everyone is doing well. Te year 2022 is off and running. Te KVMA has some big projects in the works.

Our KVMA Mid-America Conference committee, led by Dr. Brigette Dean-Hines, is planning another out- standing conference. Tere will be a major change with this year’s conference. Te 111th KVMA and 49th Mid-America Veterinary Conference is going to be held at the Belterra Casino Resort in Florence, Indiana, September 23-25, 2022. Te reason for this change be- gan several years ago. When planning large events and conferences the location must be booked several years in advance. In fact, we are currently looking at a loca-

tion for the 2026 conference. We had planned the 2020 conference at the Belterra Casino Resort because the Galt House in Louisville was under a major remodel. If you remember, the 2020 in person conference was cancelled and was held virtually. Belterra Casino Resort was very gracious and worked with us, letting the KVMA out of much of our financial obligations, which wouldn’t have happened at many venues. Tis saved the KVMA THOUSANDS of dollars. We felt that we owed it to Belterra to return the favor. We also try to be as diligent as possible with the finances of the KVMA. We feel the layout at Belterra will be a perfect fit for our conference. You will be receiving more information about the conference in the near future.

Another project that we have begun is working in conjunction with the Kentucky Board of Veterinary Examiners (KBVE). You may have already received some infor- mation from your constituent group concerning part of these plans. As many of you know, the KBVE is working diligently to modernize the Kentucky Veterinary Prac- tice Act, what the KBVE is calling the “Practice Act Modernization Initiative.” Te KVMA and KBVE are scheduling meetings with the constituent groups across the state. Tese meetings are to assist all licensees to understand the proposed changes and to provide an opportunity for feedback and discussion with representatives from the KBVE. Tere will be members of the KBVE present at each meeting to answer questions and respond to comments. Te KBVE has worked very hard to develop their bill proposal, even meeting with KVMA Membership at the end of 2021 to discuss KVMA concerns and make some changes to the draft proposal based on our
