IN MEMORIAM
CAROL COMBS-MORRIS, DVM (DEC. 4 1955 - DEC. 21, 2021)
Carol Douglas Combs-Morris, DVM, 66, died peacefully in her sleep at her home on Dec. 21, 2021. Dr. Combs-Morris was born December 4, 1955 in Paintsville to the late Marlin and Fay Stapleton Combs. Dr. Combs-Morris was from Allen and attended Wayland High School. She was the wife of Patrick Duane Morris.
Dr. Combs-Morris, was a 1982 graduate of Auburn University School of Veter- inary Medicine. She formerly practiced at the Beaver Creek Veterinary Hospital at Martin, and still lived in Floyd County at the time of her death. Te only veterinarian practicing in Letcher County, she ran the Letcher County Outpost Animal Clinic on KY 15 at Isom. She was known for her work with Beaver Creek Animal Clinic in Floyd County as well. Her colleagues said she was an amazing vet, co-worker and friend. She was a veterinarian with a reputation for taking care of family pets, strays and rescues. Dr. Combs-Morris was an active member of the AVMA and KVMA.
Kentucky River Regional Animal Shelter Manager Allie Mullins described her as a master of her craft with a passion for animals. “It was nothing strange to tell her, don’t go into the kennel with that dog because he may bite,” she said. “Ten you would find her sitting in the kennel with the dog.” Fellow veterinarian, Dr. William Hagans, said she had an impressive work ethic. “Carol’s work ethic was second to none,” Dr. Hagans said. “She wanted to help everything and everybody and I think that’s what the community’s going to miss the most about her.”
“Working with Carol, I see somewhat myself in her,” Dr. Hagans said. “Even as we worked, I saw that little girl who loved animals. Tat’s not something that you can take out of people very easily.”
Friends and colleagues said she will be an inspiration to many upcoming vets in Eastern Kentucky.

Seeking Kentucky Veterinarian Mentors!
Are you looking for a way to give back to the profession? Research has shown that young veterinarians experience high levels of stress and burnout and low levels of well-being, and the transition to practice may be particularly challenging. We are seeking volunteer KVMA mentors for a new mentorship pro- gram within Kentucky to support new and recent veterinary graduates.
What would volunteering as a mentor involve?
• 5 hour Mentor orientation & suicide intervention training • 1 hour Mentor/Mentee Meet & Greet • Expected mentoring time commitment- 1-2 hours per month for 5 months beginning summer of 2021
