of Scripture and is replicated and supported by many other Old and New Testament passages. As a child, I often heard this statement from my grandmother: “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” the words of Jesus in Acts, written by his disciple Paul. She not only said this often, but she practiced it through hospitality, gift-giving, and sharing of her abundance. She was a generous soul who was not attached to “things.” Through her abundant giv- ing, she taught others to do likewise. Scripture shows us continually that the Lord is our Provider, and it calls us to honor Him as such by how we handle what He has given us to manage. As believers, we are called to honor the Lord with our gifts. In doing so, we proclaim our dependence upon Him. It is a response of love to him for all that he has done for us. He has bought us with His blood and His grace sustains us, which are gifts from him to us. In Scripture, we are called to give, and we are able to increase our understanding of giving as a way of life as we mature in Christ. A few reasons for giving to the Lord:

Giving provides for God’s house. Giving tells God and myself that I trust Him.   Giving connects my money to Kingdom purpose.  Giving causes me to discipline myself, breaking greed and self-reliance in my heart.
